I'm back and no longer closing this thread. Thanks for all the encouragement.
Will proceed with lens cleaning lessons as well and will prepare special tools for those who are interested.
Bought a sony a100 recently and have an old and cheap lens, but vintage minolta mid-range zoom lens. Due to not taking care properly, the lens have fungus. Thanks to David (aka fatique) to clean my lens at a very good rate. Trustworthy and reliable
PM me if you are going to conduct the workshop and the price as well.
Also note that a dry cabinet is very necessary to protect your investment.
I will have to OT abit here, but I believe that if you use your equipment regularly a dry cabinet is not necessary. (Personal experience)
Maybe let the teacher fatigue comment here ;p
Yes, you're right. Also based on my personal experience (20 years ago), we use our equipment regularly so don't have a fungus problem even if we don't have a dry cabinet. Only during off-peak season or if we forgot our cameras in the bag, then this nasty fungus becomes a problem.
But then again, we must take good care of our lenses. Especially the newer lens are made up of plastics. Majority have sealed parts that are not possible to clean. If infected by fungus, the only option is to replace the infected glass. Sad to say, the cost of replacement sometimes cost more than buying a good second hand copy
Put me into the list too for the workshop!!!
Which lens do you guys want to start with? I only have limited number of lens (Nikon MFs) and we can't use other people's lens.
I am planning to use the 18 to 70mm kit lens and considering to buy a cheap 2nd so anybody can do "hands on" training (if they want to).
Quick question ... are the designs for different brands radically different like say if I learn how to open Canon lenses, and I want to clean Olympus lenses, I might encounter 'problems'?
The reason I ask is because some of us have multiple brands, as well as some use only modern 'AF' lenses, and some still use old manual lenses, and some other use both kinds, and multiple brands.
Thanks in advance.
