It's really great to hear that you're not closing this thread! I'm interested in the workshop(s) as well! Cheers!

Put me into the list too for the workshop!!!

I'm back and no longer closing this thread. Thanks for all the encouragement.

Will proceed with lens cleaning lessons as well and will prepare special tools for those who are interested.

Fatigue,

Really great to hear that!

We're behind you man!

I'm sure I speak for the silent majority when I say we really appreciate you and everything that you're done, and now, willingness to train us!

Please let us know when you intend to start your lessons and how much it will cost. Do we get our own tools, or will you be selling a tool-kit as part of your course?

Here's a picture of one of my special tools. It can be adjusted for different size of lens. Custom made so it's limited. I received a few orders and hoping to receive a few more so that it can be made and sold cheaper. The estimated cost will not exceed S$30. Please send me a PM if you're interested.

And also some rubber for opening special lenses (a few cents each)

Bought a sony a100 recently and have an old and cheap lens, but vintage minolta mid-range zoom lens. Due to not taking care properly, the lens have fungus. Thanks to David (aka fatique) to clean my lens at a very good rate. Trustworthy and reliable
PM me if you are going to conduct the workshop and the price as well.
Also note that a dry cabinet is very necessary to protect your investment.

Hi Fatigue, can you possibly open and clean an old Olympus XA? I just got one recently and the rangefinder focusing mechnism is rather dim and the viewfinder is quite dusty ...

I will have to OT abit here, but I believe that if you use your equipment regularly a dry cabinet is not necessary. (Personal experience)

Maybe let the teacher fatigue comment here ;p

Yes, you're right. Also based on my personal experience (20 years ago), we use our equipment regularly so don't have a fungus problem even if we don't have a dry cabinet. Only during off-peak season or if we forgot our cameras in the bag, then this nasty fungus becomes a problem.

But then again, we must take good care of our lenses. Especially the newer lens are made up of plastics. Majority have sealed parts that are not possible to clean. If infected by fungus,:( the only option is to replace the infected glass. Sad to say, the cost of replacement sometimes cost more than buying a good second hand copy

Which lens do you guys want to start with? I only have limited number of lens (Nikon MFs) and we can't use other people's lens.

I am planning to use the 18 to 70mm kit lens and considering to buy a cheap 2nd so anybody can do "hands on" training (if they want to).

I suppose those who want to attend the workshop mainly wants to clean their own lens, myself also.

Maybe those who wants to attend the workshop can PM you directly with their lens and then you can group them accordingly.

Or you can conduct the workshop with the intended lens in mind and post them on the forum. Those who have those lens can then "signup" for that workshop.

That way, all of us can use our own lens for hands on.

I know that this means you will have to conduct multiple sections for different groups of people.

Just a suggest...

Quick question ... are the designs for different brands radically different like say if I lear how to open Canon lenses, and I want to clean Olympus lenses, I might encounter 'problems'?

The reason I ask is because some of us have multiple brands, as well as some use only modern 'AF' lenses, and some still use old manual lenses, and some other use both kinds, and multiple brands.

Thanks in advance.

Hi I'm a professional photographer

Ques 1
How much do you charge for lens cleaning

Ques 2
Are you able to advise on my Fuji S2 Pro camera, the camera cant register what I took into the CF card

This is probably an unnecessary endorsement for what is now a well deserved reputation but I would like to add my camera to those "saved" by David.

Excellent work, great service, very reasonable costs. Many thanks again David!

Each lens has it's own design. Different makers and different types of lens have different techniques to open up. But there is so called basic fundamentals. Once you know these basic fundamentals, you will have some idea no matter what brand of lens.

I can share the DOs and DON'Ts as well as basic alignment.
