Anyone here get the extra Panasonic Original Battery?

Just got the G1 with the 2 lenses. Also got the third party batteries at Sim Lim Square for $45 each. So far, no explosion though Panasonic just posted firmware to stop people from using them for safety sake, acording to them.

Hi all!!

i just got a pana g1 last week and am loving it so far. the night shots are gorgeous and the colours really cheerful!

just a couple of problems i've had with my cam..not sure if it's 'coz i'm new with it or it's inherent:
1) some of my photos turn out blur even with the image stabilizer on..all in good lighting..
2) the shutter length always ends up to be a few seconds long when i use P mode, even in day light..
3) in M mode, you can't adjust the exposure? and my exposure always go to -3 in M mode, causing really dark photos even with significant shutter length..

would greatly appreciate if you guys can give me your inputs on these! =)) thanks!!

maybe you accidentally dialed the Exposure Compensation to the left? if you press/click the scroll wheel infront, you can change the EV compensation (-3--2--1--0--1--2--3)
just a guess :)

hey..i thought so too..but i can't access the exposure compensation when in M mode. clicking the scroll wheel only toggles between aperture and shutter options..hm..thanks anyways! =))

Why don't you post some of the blur pictures here with the EXIF information intact?

Exposure is automatic in manual mode. If it's going to -3, it means you need to open up your aperture or slow your shutter speed so that more light goes in and you will see the exposure will go up.

I normally leave my cam on Aperture mode and put it on 3.5 (it's pretty sharp even open up wide), unless I need a minimal speed in which case I set to Shutter speed, and if I need to control both, I will set to Manual. I was a new user, coming from PnS and I find that learning to shoot in this sequence is best. Of course, Auto works fine too ;-)

The other thing is the Silkypix software that comes with it is really good. The only thing I miss from Lightroom2 is the "recovery" feature (but I don't really use LR2 well enough). Shoot RAW.

Hi everyone,

Recently when I transferred photos from my G1 to my comp, the folder naming was changed from yyyymmdd to mmddyyyy and I can't seem to find the option to change it back? Does anyone else have this problem or know why this is happening?

There technically is no such thing as exposure compensation when in M mode. In M mode, you control both the shutter speed and aperture to get your desired exposure.

Exposure compensation is used in automatic or semi-automatic modes (eg, P, A and S). In P mode, the camera will deviate the shutter speed and aperture according to your selected exposure compensation. In A mode, the camera will deviate the shutter speed. In S mode, the camera will deviate the aperture.

In M mode, you are in control of both shutter and aperture - so the camera cannot deviate any settings to compensate for under/over exposure as per your desire. (Save for perhaps ISO).

ahhh.that explains alot. thanks ashyu! =) this will certainly help me enjoy my g1 more!

No problem, hope that I made sense :)

If you're getting under-exposed photos even with long exposure times, make sure you check what aperture you've selected. Try setting it to the biggest aperture possible for your chosen focal length. (Note that the biggest aperture is the smallest f-number, eg, 3.5 on the kit lens at 14 mm).

I just recently got my G1 a couple weeks back. It's a really nice step up from the Lumix FX-520 I was using before! Hope you're enjoying it as much as I am too!

Btw guys,

I just called Alan Photo and was quoted $130 for an original Panasonic G1 battery (DMW BLB 13), can I check if this is the standard price? I thought the battery would be under $100.

you definitely made sense. =) yea..i usually open my aperture wide but the shutter length is still really long, esp in comparison with my boyfriend's nikon d5000. so i thought it was abit off.

the g1 is certainly fun and a head-turner when i bring it out. hehe.

Bro,

Yup. That's the market price. Very Ex for a battery like this....
Alternatively, u might want to consider 3rd party battery. Saw a few brands at E-bay.. also few weeks ago, Alan Photo at Sim Lim actually selling 3rd party one at the price under $70 ;p

how about the ISO? try to push it up.

Holy cow, I just went to Harvey Norman to check out the price. $199 BEFORE DISCOUNT. After discount the price is $169.

Even the sales ppl were stunned when they saw the price, I'm not sure whether the inflated price is due to high demand or if its due to the exchange rate?

Hi, bought G1 about 1 week ago. Which floor did you buy the 3rd party battery? I asked one shop in Funan and he quoted $99 for a 3rd party battery:bigeyes:
Seems not many shops stock the G1 battery...yet. I am trying not to buy original which costs from $135 to $199...depending on which shop:think:

Updated my G1 firmware to version 1.2 only since the latest firmware version from Panasonic will block the use of 3rd party battery.

Alan Photo at Sim Lim. Ground floor. U may want to search in e bay. I bought one at S$45 from a seller from HK. The only weakness of this 3rd batt is that it can't hold the charge for longer period. (Eg; Fully charged, keep in dry cab for 1 week, the power will be gone.) I solve it by fully charge it the night before my shooting everytime.... :sweatsm: Original one doesn't have this problem.

have you updated your G1 to the latest firmware as Panasonic has block the use of third-party battery if this bat works with the lastest firmware then it might be worth a look
