Panasonic announces the LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S

phew~ cuz my friend has helped me buy 35-100 while on a holiday trip to Japan. At first grip of the lens, is so LIGHT and I always thought Panasonic products are made in japan. Furthermore my 12-35 is Made in Japan and don't know why it feels much heavier. I tot I've got a counterfeit in Japan... Maybe I always tot of comparing it to FF 70-200... hahaa

Thanks for the clarification, I can sleep well tonight.

A couterfeit lens is unlikely to happen

The lens I have was made in China, as was the GH3 I have.

U haven't been to a camera city in China, have u ;)

I never been to china. The cost to make a working counterfeit lens stamped with the panasonic logo will not justify the profit they will get. That is why there are 3rd party manufacturer carrying their own name so that they can sell it outside the country and earn back.

My thoughts are,

Counterfeit lens-not possible
Counterfeit camera body-not possible
Counterfeit battery/grip, lens hood- yes
Counterfeit flash-possible

Hi maldito,

then u hv underestimated the "duplication" power of China. I did see news of them, quite some time ago, creating a DSLR empty body and what's inside is just a normal PnS camera.

Total damage from Amazon.co.jp:
Lens: ¥90,536
Tenso Shipping: ¥1660
Service fee: ¥490

Total: ¥92,686
Around S$1,205 if I use a very loose exchange rate of 0.013.

I am loving this lens already. Just tried it out earlier, no special lighting, no tripod, just put this on my (very dusty) floor and took a few shots with only light coming from the window.

Tempted to get 12-35mm f2.8 also :D

Looking at getting a telephoto zoom
How's this compared to Oly 40-150? Oly has the teleconvertor option which is swaying me over :D

Oly 40-150/2.8 for indisputable better IQ.
Pana 35-100/2.8 for slight better portability.

I think the extra 50mm (100mm equiv) at the long end tends to make me think of these two lenses as quite different. Not really comparable in the sense that if you need/want the reach, the 35-100 ain't gonna cut it :)

oly 40-150 / 79.4 x 160.0 mm / 880g
If you need the extra reach
If you need the TC option
If size/weight isn't a problem

panny 35-100 / 68.6 x 99.1 mm / 360g
If you need OIS
If you need something more compact

P.S. I own the 35-100, never used the 40-150 but the images from it look really amaaaaaaazing....
