So far how do you guys find the quality of the item... is it good? Mine a bit cranky... never touch the 2 shutter release or anywhere near it, it starts auto focusing. Me merely looking at the photos taken on the LCD & holding the cam. I have to off the shutter button part, then it stops.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the late update on the E-500 half-press ( auto focus lock) function. I was away for the week.

Ok...in short, it does not work. The manual was quite misleading or i misread it (Sorry, i must have been too exicted about the IR function) :embrass:

Learning IR-Control Mode
Camera settings : You must select remote-control mode. Then you can use the shoot button of DX-FBH. You cannot focus with the shoot-button of DX-FBH. The camera can be auto focus on the subject first after operating with the shoot-button of DX-FBH.

This is the instruction to change or reset the settings.
- All this is just to re-configure the shutter button on the grip in case something happens to screw it up.

I found out that the E-330 and the E-500 do not have the half-press function build into their IR remote function in the cam itself. Firmware update Olympus?

This means that no IR remote operating through the E-330 or E-500's IR will have half-press (auto focus lock) function because the IR on the cams were simply not designed for that. :(

Well, the grip is still a joy to use. But that would have been a major selling factor for the respective cam users.

Regards,
Joseph.

Hi Guys,
I maybe asking in the wrong place but since all of you are at the OWNUSER grip discussion. I just post a question to those who had already own it.

I had bought one for my D70s, it works great with the half press. but for the power wise. I started off by just inserting one battery and it showed low batt pretty soon... after a 100 shots :-( But when i put it back to the camera without the ownuser vertical grip. (As normal), it showing full power..

Was asking around and people advise me to use on 2 batts instead of one... i had tried it, seems to improve but im not sure if the shots count really tally that of the manual... but i must say i am happy with the shutter.... and the additional form factor and weight to balance the equipment .. (Personal preference)

Do you guys face this problem when using one batt or my set is a faulty set ??

Thanks

On behalf of the Olympian community, welcome to the 4/3 forum. The brothers and sisters here are very open and prepared to share their knowledge :)

My question for you is, does this occur regulalry or randomly? I have experienced this twice in the last month when a fresh battery gave a 'power low' signal. I removed the battery chamber and reinserted it and the power level worked fine. So maybe the conections need a little jiggle and must be firmly inserted.

Looking at the conection area, and given the himidity here, I make sure that I remove the battery chamber after each use and store in the dry cabinet, as I do fear I might get corrosion of the contact points.

So the grip may not be perfect, but it definately makes the shooting experience more enjoyable, in my opinion.

The power switch should switched to A-Type, B-Type give lower voltage. It's indicated in the user manual. If it is already A-Type, then you may need a replacement.

Thanks Brother .. i had experience it a few time when running on single battery but i am using dual batt now and had yet to got this again... so just wondering if it is design to work with 2 batts ... yup... i am storing it in my dry cabi as well ... thanks again.... just hope my set isn't faulty...

I used 2 batteries in the grip & it lasts for a week or so... with daily use...

Eeeeeeeee! the grip look so ugly!

Hi,
I am switching it to A type .. B type doesnt work... i had put in 2 batts and fire continously for about 100 shots non stop... seems ok.. but the batt indictor did go down 1 bar but after a while, it return back to full... i had not put to the test whether it can really last long for say 2000 shots or more ....

But i got a gut feel, using the batts without grip as per normal will yield better results .. but for the vertical shutter and extra gripping for big hands.. it still worth it...

I also tested the AA batts . Duracell dun work well... energizer seems better choice..

Need a quick crash course or guidance for the vertical grip. Totally dunno how to use it to fire any shots after got it for 3 days already.
I'm using a E500 with the vertical grip now.
Thx!!

According to the manual, you have to stick something on the E500 IR sensor, and Camera settings: You must select remote-control mode. Then you can use the shoot button of DX-FBH. You cannot focus with the shoot-button of DX-FBH. http://www.ownuser.com.tw/e_E500_4.htm
 does that mean cannot shoot in SA if it's not focus ? can try MF to see if it can trigger. This should confirm if the IR has been set before sale.

Thx for the quick reply. Manage to snap some shots. But the focusing that part is getting on my nerves. Next thing is, there's a lag everytime i fire. As mention before in here that need to set to 2s Remote Control mode which is kinda funny if I have to shoot at it in that mode.
Plus, what's that thing sticking at the IR sensor there for?

No reason to set 2s delay unless it does work.

That thing, I dont have E500 so I can only said, according to the manual, it's call acrylic reflection-lens, does that sound high tech to you :bsmilie:, from the picture, looks like the IR signal was received from the side and reflect into the IR sensor.

I used the grip for 2 days continously for some events that i had. Close to the end of the 2nd day i got a 'low batt' indication. But still it works, though it made me nervous, wondering is it going to empty anytime... i really wonder how long can 2 pcs of 2000mAh last. The 'low batt' indication seems not accurate. Whenever it is off & on again, no more 'low batt'...

Anyway just for info, Sim Lim 6th floor orion shop selling a pair of AA batt casing for the ownuser grip for only $19.00. Actual price is $38.00

Alright, that acrylic thingy is left at home when I'm out oversea right now. Guess the I'll just forget about the vertical grip shutter buttons for now. The batt is going very well for me. I guess for the low batt to appear is when I accidentally switch to the B-type on the base. else, the batt can go on not stop!!

Long time never heard from this thread.
Anyway, heard the latest price of the ownuser grip is $130.00 at Orient Sim Lim. Anyone can confirm this price?
