The prisim for the E500 is a good fix but...

1) It's stuck on using adhesive... so how well and how long before it drops off is questionalble...
2) How about when you want to use the normal remote (remove the prism and replace it later?)
3) No half-shutter :nono:

The last point for me is the deal breaker.

But I must still highlight tha the grip is really very built, just that the way it was executed for the E500/E300 leaves much to be desired in terms of shutter triggering; a limitation on the part of the cameras not being able to support wired remotes :)
Point 2 works, cos I tried using detached FBH and triggered off from the front of the camera.

However, I agree with Point 1 and Point 3. I'll go back to the distro if I use up the 2 pieces of stickers given. As for Point 3, manual focus works best for the moment, since IR triggering means the focusing is done after the shutter release, and the time lag would be an issue.

I am looking at the IR prism location and wonder if your fingers might, at times, get in the way of firing. Is that something you have to be aware of?

Hi,

That was sharp observation. Sorry if my photos had caused any confusion, here is a more accurate photo of the grip:

The IR emitter is quite well-nested at the back, so in a comfortable holding position, the fingers normally would not cover it.

just got the grip today, E510 model.

got direct from distributor after our bro wrx_sti gave the info. $137 incld gst. for those interested, they only accept cash payment. 1 yr warranty from distributor. many many pcs left.

john 3:16 quoted $165.00, 1 pc left.
This is definitely a good price. I actually went ahead with my purchase because the only price posted here is $198... then I came back and saw $137 last night... :(

Anyways the focus here seems to be on the E-510, so being a E-500 owner, I guess I'll eventually have to get it somewhere else.

So must pay extra for the AA batteries holders? Thought it is in the whole package.....as mentioned by the guys previously.

Bro Microcosm spoke to Lau Marketing... all of us can go to the distributor to buy direct at S$137... not at the Comex show coz there selling at $198. This M.O won't be needed. The distributor place is 2nd level High St building... above the Olympus showroom.

,serious???that's kinda,conincidential?:bsmilie:

If I could help it, I would never want to have to go to the Oly Service Centre. :bsmilie:

same here brother,i hate going to service centers,:bsmilie:,reminds me of that time i went to IBM,just got my IBM at that time, about 4 years back, blue screen error,i sent to them, and i was charge for refomating,i could have done it,just that i never seen blue screen error, and they took so long just to reformate it,lousy service

tried using the grip (E510) today, well thought out buttons. the half trigger mechanism works well. i find the weight with 2 BLM-1 manageable so far.

only gripe i have after 1 day's use is the usb connector. it gets in the way of the ISO / down button when you want to change settings.

Use a small piece of gaffer tape to secure the USB connector. That work wonders!

How is the grip for the E500? Is it heavy with the grip? Has anyone tried with other batteries rather than BLM-1? :)

I tried it with the E510 (should be the very much the same with the E500)

Balance is very good and the large grip makes for a good hold.

It is of course heavier but not to the point that it feels akward to balance.

I would say the added weight makes the camera nearer to my liking. I also felt that the weight was evenly distributed.

I brought it out for field test at Army Open House today. The IR triggering works only once out of every 2 shots. I'll be bringing it down on Tuesday to let the distro have a look and see if anything can be done.

Do note that the rubberised covers on the connector ports drop off quite easily, since they are not connected to the FBH. Though this does not affect functionality, there might be people who don't like to lose bits and pieces of their equipment.

From the manual, it states that for the E-500 (and most likely E-300), auto-focusing (half-press) will work when u using a Oly remote to configure the Batt grip. I will be testing that very soon and update u guys. ;)

Interesting, keep us all posted on this.

Hi guys, bought the E510 Batt grip earlier today. Steven was not in, however, I just quote steven's name and no questions asked. Friendly staff they have there.

I also bought the AA batt holder - purchased it at $35.00 (Comex-$50.00)

So far so good. Everything is working fine.

Hope to hear about the results soon =) I roughly saw that part of the instructions on the manual, but I didn't have a remote with me.

Btw have you tried the FBH outdoors? It seems that the IR functionality is intermittent.

You will need the RM-1 for calibrating the grip. Let me know if you need one... or you guys can borrow from one another.

Sorry ppl, I've not been reading this thread lately. Will there be any mass order? Is there vertical grip for E500 model. What is the price? Anyone can PM me regarding this and let me know thru phone instead?
thx!!
