OMG! Look at the EM-1 aka the now official E-M1 Thread

Hey guys, any of you owned the 12-35mm from Panasonic before getting the E-M1? I selling off my E-M5 soon, not sure if I should keep the 12-35mm as well. Did you guys keep the 12-35 or did people prefer the 12-40?

I too sold off my 12-35mm and got 12-40mm. I never looked back as I still enjoy using with 12-40mm. I still keep my EM-5 as my 2nd camera(my wife can help to snap with another lens) while my EM-1 with 12-40mm is my daily camera.
My simple advice for you is to sell off your 12-35mm. As for your EM-5, it is up to you to keep it or sell it off.

Hi, I was initially looking at EP5. But after trying out EM1, I'm lost in it's world. The whole feel, grip and shoots taken from 12-40mm pro.

Current price is S$2750 with kit. Anyone found a better deal?

The GX1's a decent camera. But remember that the 12-40 doesn't come with Lens IS , hence it may be a problem for u using it on GX1

Well, I don't like the HLD-7's shutter haha. The grip doesn't feel really well made to me.

Poor planning here too so missed out on the free HLD7 with pre-order haha.

Personal preference here, moreover I don't need the extra buttons and will prefer not spending $300 for the grip when I just need something to protect the camera's baseplate while it costs lesser than 1/3 of the price.

I just placed an order for mine The RSS grip is also excellent but its a tad too costly for me.

What purpose does this accessory served? Personally its seems unnecessary.

I think for those with bigger hands, it may help improve the grip while still keeping the camera smaller than with the HLD-7. When holding the E-M1, not all the fingers will be able to grab onto the grip, due to the limited space (height). The added grip provides space for your pinky to rest on.

Ya grip no right no wrong.best is comfort.

Some like pinky below cam,some like it on grip.

Some people could even use em5 gripless for extended hours. Who are we to comment hehe

I'm sure do it serves it purpose in protecting the E-M1 base from scratches and provide the pinky finger a place to rest, but for me I'd rather buy the RRS grip at US$65 (excluding shipping) as it looks nicer and also works as tripod base-plate.
This is my opinion only, as I did use the RRS base + grip with the E-M5 before.

Agree with that, I'd go for the RRS base + grip if budget allowed it given the options of a RRS , JB or Gariz , the JB is the option that eats up the least part of your pocket while providing e protection and slightly more grip space.

I'm thankful all the 3 options provide access to the batt door. I can never say enough how frustrated I was with the old HLD6 grip that needed me to remove it whenever I needed a batt change.

Had handled Varf's RRS grip at the meet up and ya, it is solid but I find it above my budget.

Tested varf's RRS. Apart from the well built features, it's 2 pc and the tripod screw is aligned to the centre of lens, which helps with panoramas. I suppose all this adds up to a well thought and hence pricier product?
