welcome. but yup, its just exercising care with our equipment. Glad u r enjoying the 12-40/2.8. So far my experience with MFT equipment has been that they're really quite tough.

My wife had accidentally (i hope haha) dropped my 45/1.8 once from the table onto the porcelain floor and it turned out not even scratched and all ok when i brought it back to Oly for checking.

Missed another heartbeat of mine. Glad your 45/1.8 is tough nut.phew...

Anyone interested in the JB grip for EM-1 ? ;)

I just placed an order for mine :) The RSS grip is also excellent but its a tad too costly for me.

I thought that people are complaining that the E-M1 is too big already. Why add an additional grip which only serves to increase the height and weight of the already too-big-too-heavy camera ? Also what's wrong with the free HLD-7 battery grip? At least it holds an additional battery to extend the camera's shooting time and comes with additonal shutter release, two control dials and two function buttons for shooting vertically.

Well, I don't like the HLD-7's shutter haha. The grip doesn't feel really well made to me.

Poor planning here too so missed out on the free HLD7 with pre-order haha.

Personal preference here, moreover I don't need the extra buttons and will prefer not spending $300 for the grip when I just need something to protect the camera's baseplate while it costs lesser than 1/3 of the price. :)

Hopefully next week.

After Black Friday & Cyber Monday, shipping is gonna be slow for awhile. Still waiting for my items by amazon and a few from levi's.

I am waiting for Gariz to launch half case for E-M1. Meanwhile I use gaffer tape to protect part of the base plate.

wonder how it looks like to cover the grip as well LOL

It won't cover the whole grip la, haha. Would look frightening if it does. ;)

Only covers the baseplate like all Gariz half cases do and a small bottom bit of the grip but good point u have.

Hey guys, any of you owned the 12-35mm from Panasonic before getting the E-M1? I selling off my E-M5 soon, not sure if I should keep the 12-35mm as well. Did you guys keep the 12-35 or did people prefer the 12-40?

the 12-35 was my workhorse until the 12-40 came along. Sold the 12-35 for the 12-40 and had no regrets since. I'm sure there's a comparison of 12-35 vs 12-40 in this thread, can take a quick look there :)

Sold both the EM-5 and 12-35 when I received the E-M1 and 12-40 from the pre-order.
I'm sure many of us also who had both did the same.. lol!

If I want to cover the base plate, I would prefer the Gariz half case as I can still change the battery without have to unscrew the 'grip' (which you can't actually grip) to do so.

What irked me a lot with the EM5 and HLD6 was exactly this. Having to remove the grip whenever I needed a batt change.

if using the RSS, JB or Gariz grip u won't face this problem. No matter what I saw most brothers just using the EM1 nude , I'm just being over-zealous in wanting to keep it scratch free.

That's the main reason why I don't use any add-on grip on my cameras apart from the Gariz grip which has the added advantage of giving a better moulded grip and side protection because of the leather half-case. The base is also much thinner than the RSS and JB grip and does not increase the height of the camera by much.

As for the HLD-7 the saving grace if I were to use it, is that I don't need to remove the grip to change the battery in the camera body as I can just change the battery in the grip and continue shooting as per normal. It does make the camera body much bigger and I like it small. The E-M1 as it is without the grip is just nice for me. Maybe the HLD-7 would come in useful when the much bigger 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO lens comes out as it would help balance the ergonomics of handling of the camera better when mounted with this lens.
