Agree that the shipping cost to Singapore is a killer....
When I ordered the base+grip for the E-M5 more than 1 year ago, I had to use a comgatevay/vpost.

i shipped it to someone who was visiting SF on business, so shipping cost me USD 5.98 and tax was USD 9.38.
Let mine reach first then i can do a proper measurement and see how aligned the tripod screw to the ctr, I'm pretty sure the RRS is going to be really exact since its advertised as such while JB makes no mention of this.
i think you may be missing something here. the main use of the RRS plate is as an Arca-Swiss type quick-release tripod plate - it fits compatible tripod heads nicely without needing to use the screwthread mount. that it also offers an additional tripod screwthread mount aligned with the lens axis is a nice bonus. the vertical plate affords the option of mounting the camera in portrait orientation onto the tripod head. the JB is not designed for this at all.
I bought a GH2 when I was in the US this year because I wanted to upgrade from my G2 and thought I would be shooting quite a lot of video in the five months that I was there. The price also dropped a fair bit to about 600USD because the GH3 had just been released. But now that I'm back in SG I'm starting to feel that it wasn't the best purchasing decision as I'm now shooting photos primarily, and somehow I'm just not pleased with the results I'm getting on the GH2, seems like the IQ is lacking somewhere (I'm using the Panny 20mm and Oly 45mm lenses). After PP they look alright, but out of the camera stills don't look that great. Thus I'm considering switching over to the EM1 with the 12-40 lens since the still photo quality would be better I believe, but the price is too steep. If I had not bought the GH2 earlier this year my decision would be made much easier. Any thoughts from current EM1 users haha :/
Indeed! I don't get it, it serves no purpose except looking like designed by a blind man. The surface doesn't even match the E-M1.adding the jb grip defeats the purpose of having m4/3 body
I started into m4/3 with the G2 as well. Then also upgraded to the gh2 mostly for video. For stills it's ok but you need to shoot raw. The jpegs OOC are not the best.later I upgraded to the gh3 as my main cam and went from gf3 to epl5 for sec cam.
I think if you are looking for better IQ, any cam with the later sensors are good enough.
- EM5, EP5, EPL5/6. EPM2, GH3 share the same sony sensor. But the oly jpg engine is still better OOC
- g6, and gf6 is supposedly using a tweaked gh2 sensor, so little point to try these
- EM1, Gx7, gm1 are all using the latest sensor tech.
IMO, you can try the em5. It's really cheap and still has the built in EVF. Another option is gx7. And of course em1. Why don't you try the gx7 as the image processor has improved together with the sensor.
Wow we share the same m4/3 history haha. Thanks for your advice. I'm not really interested in the GX7 'cause I'm looking for a more professional camera which I will be using for my own freelance work. I actually am quite tempted by the EM5 too since the price has dropped substantially, but I don't know how much I will be missing out since I'm once again buying an older generation camera instead of the latest one, ie I don't know if features like built-in WiFi and the very good EVF would be things I regret not paying for if I get the EM5. Should I save on the money (again) or take the pinch and upgrade one shot, that's what I'm contemplating now. Sigh.
My advice for you is that if you buy the E-M5, never ever get your hands on a E-M1 and shoot with it. Just pretend that this camera has never existed. If not, you WILL regret your decision to buy the E-M5 and kick yourself silly and you will end up ultimately going out and buying the E-M1. I have both and I can tell you that the shooting experience between the two is like heaven and earth and well worth the price difference.Wow we share the same m4/3 history haha. Sigh , the cat is right.
Victim here and collecting my EM-1 tmr and this is in addition to owning an EP5.
I second that. Hold it and the difference between the EM-5 and EM-1 becomes obvious. HahaMy advice for you is that if you buy the E-M5, never ever get your hands on a E-M1 and shoot with it. Bro. You Kenna BBB bug?
that's why I let go one of my EP5sakrapovic600 bro helped to secure a deal for a EM-1 body which i couldn't resist. Can pair the EP5 with lighter lenses like the 17/1.8, 45/1.8 etc while the EM-1 can go with the heavier lenses like the 12-40 and hopefully the upcoming 40-150/2. 8
Without him , think i'd not bear to plonk down the money for this investment haha. One body in One body sold so still within house rules.
