OMG! Look at the EM-1 aka the now official E-M1 Thread

if the rumors for EM-1 were all true , it is marketed at the 4/3 users too. Imagine using 4/3 and M4/3 lenses all on one body without any appreciable delay in AF speeds !

As such the size of the EM-1 or its grip can't be too small. Comparing the EM-1 against the E5 for example , I must definitely say the EM-1 will be definitely a worth to wait for release.

Has everyone forgotten abt the rumored fast zoom from Oly ? If Oly comes out with a MFT 12-50/2.0 , I eat bread for months also worth it haha. (And yes , I'll definitely let go my 12-35/2.8 immed)

Spoken like a true fan. According to track record and rumors, you should be eating bread for a while, though it might be a shorter focal length at 12-40mm. So hold your horses about selling the PL12-35X.

Wondering how many still have the 43 high or superhigh grade lens around especially those people who completely switched to m43 bodies..

I still a cab-full of High Grade and SHG lenses. Though I am also using m4/3 cameras. I know a few of the mods here still keeps the SHG lenses. But I believe there will not be any AF speed improvements for the SHG lenses on the new camera body, simply because the SHG were designed a decade ago and until they are refreshed with a new motor system, they should not see any major AF improvements.

But their glass quality, that is a different story.

Glass are as useful as they have support. These lenses all have electronics and motors inside. Heaven forbid if Olympus quietly runs out of parts to repair these lenses.

Lenses from as far back as the 70s can still have a chance to find parts and repaired.

Moreover, with today's technology, a lot of parts can be easily recalled from CAD and quickly milled. Electronics can be a little bit more tricky but nevertheless, I believe they stock these electronics in quite large volume.

Lenses that far back will have parts, provided you cannibalize those said parts from another lens!

with 3D printing now, any parts can be fabricated almost instantaneously. ... except glass elements for the lens i guess. ... but we'll never know if its possible in future.

I believe at present only a certain material can use 3D printing. And 3D printing is still a very very expensive manufacturing process (although China did use 3D printing to come up with the largest aircraft part - a titanium alloy part). In future, who knows?

When you need parts urgently, money will become no object.

We might one day have custom made cameras delivered within hours.. with 3D printing.

3D printing materials are polymers and aren't exactly designed for repeated mechanical use.

One of the reason could be to encourage user to use the 43 version of super high grade lens instead. Afterall this is the reason why they build this cam for.

Will see this as Oly's efforts to streamline the FT and MFT users
And of course to remind the old loyalists they are not forgotten. The SHG lenses being so good deserve a upgraded camera too.

If its f2 the lens will weigh 2-3 times heavier. Have you seen the oly 14-35 f2? Weighs 1kg

Think Lumix 12mm-35mm ƒ2·8 with OIS (IS switchable on the lens) is better.

Strange enough, i scrutinize this photo over and over again.... it looks exactly the same as the video one. except with 12-40 lens.... and what a world of difference it make to the look of the camera. I guess the E-M1 will look better with larger lens ... possible even better with 4/3 lens. And will look really funny with m4/3 smaller lens like the 17/1.8 or Panny 20/1.7, 14/2.5.

If the specs are almost identical to E-P5 except that its weather sealed,... i would get the E-P5 with VF4 instead.
