OMG! Look at the EM-1 aka the now official E-M1 Thread

is it ugly?

Hmm.. thought i read some where this em1 accepts both 43 n m43 lenses.... but hw cm in the video leaked they are still using a mmf3 to use the 43 lens?

Mount is not hybrid. Its the sensor.

Meaning we can expect FT lenses to focus as fast as native MFT lenses on the EM-1?

That is the aim, especially with the new Sony PDAF enabled sensors.

Prefer the current em5 design where I can decide if I want to go small or with a grip or with full grip.

This pretty much is more the more pro users. Appeal less to vanity users like me hehe

Look like this guy got to be as big as gh3...

Flange back distance difference between 4/3 and m4/3 requires the adaptor to make up for the difference. Am quite keen to see the performance of PDAF on 4/3 lenses though.

Haha... looks like there will be no E-7 after all.....

Seeing this design I think I am more inclined to get the gx7. I don't own any 4/3 oly lenses anyway

This design looks more like hybrid of E1 and OM-D, rather than a pro line of OM-D.
Guess i will just wait for the replacement for em5 instead of getting this em1...

Why is the ON/OFF switch on the left?

Bingo. But according to the narrative in the video and the quick sample shoot (while demonstrating the WiFi function), it seems like the speed for PDAF is not that far off, though one have to take into consideration the lens used was the SWD series. I wonder how would a 35-100, 90-250 SHG lens perform? As sluggish as it was in the E-System (E3/E5). Most likely.

IMHO, I prefer the gh3 look

Ha ha ha... I am sure... You OWN the GH3... LOL! But I do have to agree that the GH3 styling is appealing. But I am not one for looks. I think the E-M1 should feel really good. Especially with the larger FT lenses. All we have are images and a leaked video. Shall wait to see what the production model is like.

True for your case. If you don't own any E-System lenses, there aren't that much incentive to go the way of E-M1. If I were you, I would go the GX7 route.

No idea. But it is good to let photographers know that there is a good use for the LEFT hand... LOL!

Lol. I'm ok with the looks of the gh3 and em5. Really like the gx7 though. But some how the em1 doesn't appeal to me (looks wise).

I should think so too, if the design team took into consideration the size of the FT SHG lenses.

It doesn't look too much bigger than the last E-M5. Just a bit taller, and now with the grip.

another bad on/off switch position from olympus. E-M5 was bad, but still ok. E-P5 position is sweet. E-M1 placing on the left is ergonomically flawed. In fact, the whole E-M1 design is rather flawed. I am really wondering if this is THE OMD pro we are all waiting for. Looks like some bad prototype with poor ergonomics.
