Just another question. Do I need MMF3 to have phase detection enabled on my EM1 if I am mount 4/3 lens? or any 4/3 to m4/3 adapter will do?

Any MMF adapter will do.

Just another question,

For

ii) 12-60/2.8-40 - At 35mm what is the maximum aperture?

Thank in advance?

for the 14-54 mk2, at 35mm it is at f3.1 all the way until 38/39mm, i am on em5 but should be same for em1.

mmf3 allows the system to be weather sealed

Hi guys quick question.

I just rented the E-M1 cause I am considering on getting it.

Just wondering is there a way to quickly switch between the focus areas.
Because sometimes I like to shoot from the hip (use AF group) and when I use the viewfinder (AF small).

Just wondering is there a way to toggle between both modes quickly.

Best I can come up with so far is set AF grp mode to my AF home and set it to one of the function buttons. But after I turn it off and on, it will be stuck in AF grp mode and I can't toggle it back to AF small.

Bro, change your AF to area AF then go to menu and save it as Myset1 by setting it.

Then go to menu again and go to the Gears/Cogs section and look for buttons/dials/lever and under the button section assign one of the 2 front facing buttons to Myset1. When u press this button it will switch to area AF and press it again it would go back to point AF (assuming this was the selection before step 1 above)

I just tested it but do select point AF first then try the assigned button.

Here's a quick vid but I realize some buttons allow for toggle while some do not so try and see which one suits u. I finally settled for the Rec button for this toggle

yesh bro, select the AF section (so to speak) via the SCP (super control panel shown in the vid), when there, press Info button then use up/down buttons to change the size. i think the vid should show this portion as well.

Oh I mean from like 3x3 to 4x4. Something like that. I saw your example is from 1 af point to all af point. Because I don't want the AF to track the whole area. Just a certain portion and size.

I've been going through the internet, I don't think olympus cameras use this method of controlling AF points

No problem dude, thanks alot for helping me answer my queries. Much appreciated

most welcome bro... yeah, no such function as yet

Real test for the E-M1 tonight while I took photographs for my company's annual dinner & dance - the E-M1 and 12-40mm combo performed well, locks focus, shoots fast, small and light. The only thing I didn't like is the battery life... For a 4 hour event, I used up 3 full batteries!! In the past with the E-5, in a similar event, I only use 1.5 battery.

Ya, small complain but just wanted to share this with folks who planned to use the E-M1 to cover important events - bring enough juice.

3 batteries? That's a lot.. I think there's a few settings which might be able to help u save some juice..

1) full time af - turn it off if u don't need the camera to be always locked on to a subject

2) Half press IS - this might take up some if u do half press a lot to compose before shooting

U might wanna use single shot af instead of continuous af+tr as well.. especially if you're not going for action shots..

Thanks for the tips, ya, I was quite shock over the battery life also - more than 400 shots over 4 hours, plus occasional reviewing of the shots.... 2 out of the 3 batteries were 3rd party though, maybe the 3rd party ones ran out of juice quicker.
Regardless, do standby batteries if you are out and about.

Ahhh I see.. Cause I did an event recently coming up with a mixture of videos, timelapse and stills.. had about 300 stills and a couple of short videos (less than 1 min) but I didn't even deplete one battery from my original (I have 3 original batteries).. that's y I'm quite shocked that u used 3..

Moral of the story - Buy original :P

Does anyone know what's the street price of the EM1 now? With kit and without kit lens.

Probably still in the 18xx range and with 12-40 will be 28xx. If can get at 27xx will be good price.

Hmmm? I can get almost 800 shots (3 hours) on one battery.

Thanks!
Can't seem to find a set to play around with at the major retailers.
Guess will have to pop over to Funan/Penisula one of these days.

Price of 1 original can buy like 6 DSTE ones...

But how much time do u save from changing the batteries and what shots could u miss while changing the batteries? But of course that is speaking in times where u r shooting events or sports...
