Olympus E-P2 launched

Ya, just like the G1 to GH1....

No E-5? I'm leaving Olympus.... hahaha... :bsmilie:

No, the G1 to GH1 change brought excellent video recording, probably the finest for any (non-RED) interchangeable lens camera. The GF1 is also a bit better than the G1 but the price difference (for each at launch time) isn't huge. Still, Panasonic needs help with their exposure settings.

I hope Olympus finds a good direction soon. That D300s is looking really good right now. :bsmilie:

Actually the one key thing that attract me is the built in IS in body. Might consider getting second hand E-P1 body when E-P2 is launch as second body. :sweatsm:

I though those "improvement" (bolded) can be easily improved if Olympus is willing to come out with a firmware for E-P1? :sticktong

12 Megapixel
3fps
stereo sound
AF tracking
1.44 million dot electronic viewfinder with 100% field of view
8 Art Filters (two more than the E-P1 ….. Diorama Filter and Cross Process)
i-Enhance function (color boost)
230K LCD
X1/180

Looks Cool!

But still have no build in Viewfinder…..:(

:o For the price, I will prefer to buy a Film Rangefinder.

m4/3 lens wud produce smaller image circle. Its juz like using EF-s lens from canon on their full frame body, u get the idea?

Don't quite understand this part. Why would it vignette when both 4/3 and m4/3 are using the same sensor size?

I imagine that if it was physically possible to mount the lens, it will not focus to infinity, due to the greater distance between lens and sensor.

I'm puzzled by several posts suggesting being played out bcos Oly updates their product so fast (6months), wasn't this known from the begining of the EP-1 launched that Oly intends to release another "superior" model year end?

This looks much better imo .... sigh ....

I have to agree, this looks so much nicer.

Going by the EP-2 specs, it looks to me more like a EP-1 update, rather than a superior model.

PEN-2.. seems like just a mark II.
more art filters? i don't need that. prefer to take "clean" pics and do whatever processors on computer if i want.

Regardless, there shouldn't be a surprise that a newer model was due out year end, correct?

Pity to those who just purchased the EP1

well its sort of an olympus trend to release slightly upgraded models after a few months (though 5mos could have been too short)... like the E-4x0 and E-5x0 series.

I think it should be the other way around... pity those getting E-P2

E-P2 $ factor up by lot (hope it does not retail at the suggested price) but feature wise not much more. Good that it has the VF, but they should have improve on the Retro look, imporve the LCD resolution and that camera strap lug, should have followed GF-1 style on the lugs (is that what's it's called?).

I guess many are expecting even more features or enhancements.

Different expectations, and mine is met by that EVF which rocks. Description of use in this preview makes my mouth water (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/EP2/EP2A.HTM). Why can't they release it earlier ? I really want a better shooting experience in bright daylight.

The high-quality EVF is a milestone so far in M4/3 cameras, and is an important one. I am sure nobody who owns a top DSLR will say they can live without a good VF. I've never seen my D3-toting friends using the Live View even once during shoots.

This is according to one preview, and if true, Olympus is first again. Of course, Panasonic can follow :), and they should, to make it even better. At least the GF1 already has the port.

"Although Olympus didn't confirm this, we believe that this to be the same EVF which Epson announced production of a few weeks back. "

uh-oh...

Imaging Insider: “Autofocus. Only one other problem came to light with the Olympus E-P1 in my shooting, and that was a tendency for the AF system to miss focusing on smaller foreground objects in favor of the background. That still happens with the Olympus E-P2, something I wish they’d addressed with a finer AF point, as is included on the Panasonic GF1.”

on a brighter note... seems that 100mm macro is coming soon to 4/3

Anyone else notice the DIY faux-leather finish on the entire front/side of this modified E-P1??? :dunno:

i love this finishing too. super retro look.

I am quite interested in the diorama effect which is like the tilt-shift lens. of course this can be adjusted in post production.

I agree that it is more of upgrading firmware, rather than hardware.
I was hoping for a better high ISO performance?
