Old/alternate lenses, adapters, and lens mount conversions.

Still have the old Pentax M 200f4 and loves it on my NEX 5N. I have been chasing this pair of birds for quite sometime at
the park near my place. Still do not know their names.

Pentax M 200f4 at F8, ISO 800 on NEX 5N.

Yes, Asian Koel, there are a few species. They are brood parasitic, meaning they lay eggs in other birds nest and let them
bring up their young. One of their favourite host is the crow.Sometimes you see crows harrassing and mobbing them
for obvious reasons.

The picture above show a female or juvenile bird. The male is almost black in colour and bigger.
Birds of Singapore: Asian Koel (Eudynamys scolopacea)

Thanks for the info. So, those two must be female sibblings, cannot be mother & daughter, right?

Juveniles (young birds) can be male or female and that plumage can also be that of of a female adult.Your guess is as good as mine.
I'm no expert. :)

Finally caught the male Asian Koel. This black bird is very difficult to capture and very camera shy.

Not long ago I witnessed 2 crows attacking a male koel.It looked like fighter aircraft in combat. They landed on the roadside,
luckily there were no cars passing by.The crows broke off the attack with the koel lying there breathing heavily. After
a few seconds it manage to stand up,hopped to the side of the road and flew off.The crows could have finished it off
but decided to let it live, did'nt know there was chivalry among these birds although crows are hated by humans yet they
acted gentlemanly just venting their "anger" at the koel who lay eggs in other bird's nest to take advantage of their "kindness". :)

In end, the female koel slip in n lay her egg while her gallant mate nearly died in the hands of the crows... Epic love fr the make koel...

Took the break I had when I sent my daughter for course to use the Super Takumar 135/2.5.
Too bad my ISO was set to 800 and I did not realize it.

This is the non-smc earlier 5-element version.

Still learning how to appreciate shooting birds with my cheapo Pentax M 200.
Small bird, don't know name, so about 100% crop, a little noisy.
All at F8, ISO 800 on NEX 5N.

It's an old Pentax SLR lens. The M signifies the model series, as in Pentax M, A, or K, all old Pentax SLR lenses. This Pentax M 200f4 is only 300+ gm and about the size of the NEX SEL 55-210.

Pentax mount SLR lenses are small and light. My M 200f4 is about SGD 120 and on the NEX 5N, it's just a joy to use. With focus peaking and magnification, using it for birds within 5 - 8 metres is just good enough.Another one at f8.

I suppose you need a Pentax K mount to fuji X mount, if there is one. I am not sure whether you can mf a 200mm lens on your Xe-1. With the NEX, focus peaking is paramount, otherwise you will struggle, as magnification is almost impossible when hand holding a 200mm lens or longer.
