Old/alternate lenses, adapters, and lens mount conversions.

brought the konica 100 2.8 out to play today. a very decent performer. it gets abit dull wide open with certain kinds of lighting, but nice rendition overall.

The background a bit too dark for my liking but I like it when done in B/W. The cabbages shot is excellent.

Ben, hw good are the Tokina AT-X Pro 17/3.5 and 20-35/2.8?

thank you!

i have yet to try the 17 3.5, but from what i ve heard, i'd go for it if the price was right. i ve used the 20-35 2.8 (last version) for about a year, and if you discount the slight backfocus, it was an excellent lens. contrast is good, and very lively. flare was pretty well controled, but no match for the N 17-35 i switched up to. wide open, it was sharp, and by f4 was just about perfect for my needs.

here's one of my favourites shot by this lens. shot on fuji pro 160 C with an FA. at about 20mm, about f5.6 or 8? cant really remember.

N as in Nikon or Contax N? Nice shot here again.

paiseh.. should have said Nikon. no $ for contax glass. the contrast and clarity of the nikkor really shocked me because i thought the tokina was already very good. but then again, it cost me slightly more than double the tokina.. it could also be because i didnt have the hood for the tokina.

on a side note, i just helped a friend convert the vivitar 135 f/2.8 close focus, which goes down to 1:2 to EOS mount. seems like a nice lens so far.

Thanks. I'll give the Tokina 20-35 f2.8 a miss then.

I have since purchased a Sigma 20-40 f2.8 in EF mount. No additional work needed to use it. Will test and revert if it is any good.

I am looking for the next bunch of gears to explore. Which of the below do you guys suggest based on IQ, low cost and ease to resell.

(1) Contax 645 lenses + NAM1 + conversion of NAM1 to EOS mount = full AF Contax 645 lenses on EOS cam
(2) Mamiya 645 lenses + Mirex adapter = T/S MF Mamiya 645 lenses on EOS cam
(3) Hassablad 645 lenses + Mirex adapter = T/S MF CZ Hassablad lenses on EOS cam

Woohoo! Nice la bro. Joining the Mirex club. I am not sure if the manual Hassey 645s have wider options compared to Mamiya.
I will be freerer in May, if u wanna try out Mirex/Mamiya combi, we can meet up for kopi and let u try.

Resallability I dunno. No intention of selling any of my stuffs for long long time

Ryan,

On the resale thingy, it is more like a warranty in case I did not like the setup, I can sell it off without (too much) loss.

The Mamiya is stuck between 2 Zeiss options. At the moment I am swaying towards the Contax 645 cos can get AF. And I also have the option of getting the Contax 645 body when I want wider or thinner DoF from these lenses. Then the PhaseOne digital backs ..... err...ok I think drifted too far off already. Better stick to 35mm. :)

I am not in town at the moment. Will give you a tinker when I am in town. Thanks for the offer. I think I will shelf this idea till I get some hands-on.

I was in London over the weekend. Went to a Regent Park, and a wetland reserve just outside of London to try out some birding shots with a manual lens. Have no clue what to expect, I went to both places with a tripod and my Pentacon 200mm f/4 MC. Now I really understand how the old school folks out there had to go through to do birding with manual lenses. Here are some of the photos for that 2 days.

Please note I did PP on these pics. White balance, exposure correction, contrast, and sharpening only on the eyes area of the subject.

U r most welcomed MWP

Sharing some old shots.
The Mamiya 150 f2.8 tilted on Mirex, 5D2
Works great when there are no stray lights flying around, generates a really wierd flare sometimes even when untilted, enough for me to shelve it for a while

My absolute favourite landscape lens, the Mamiya 35f3.5 again on Mirex, shifted stitched. Handles direct sun very badly with some funky flares that simply takes too much time to PP. So in this case I hid the sun

Boring I know, but my Absolute Favourite Landscape lens again, the Mamiya 35mm f3.5 shifted stitched tilted , the Peak
* if it is one lens to bring for travels, this is my absolute pick .

Again the same setup as above

Wasn't the most optimal lighting, was a little running late that day.
