[Official thread] Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f2.8 PRO

I received a call from oly yesterday evening informing me that my lens will arrive by end dec. I am the first batch.

Same here, 1st batch. End of December. Oh well.

You all must be very special VIPs of Olympus to receive personal calls from them on the status of your pre-orders. Sadly, I don't seem to get such preferential treatment from them. :(

No worries :) they calling one by one about the delayed shipment dates. Wait for your turn.

Nice! Meanwhile we can start updating and wait for our new toy

Mine is 2nd batch and I got a call today informing me that my lens will only be arriving end Jan 15. Haiz. Money deduct so fast, lens come so late.

It's out of stock worldwide and manufacturing/shipping takes time.

POiSON!!! Everyone dreams of this beauty!

Any bros here bought more than one copy of the 40-150 pre-order and is keen to sell, please let me know. Cannot stop thinking of the lens after i missed the second pre-order haha

I fully understand how you feel.. Actually i felt that this pre-order exercise has been poorly managed. As highlighted by some members here, there seems to be "VIP treatment" given to some people while others like myself were just brushed away. I missed the 1st pre-order due to this.

On 5th Nov I cancelled my pre-order when I noticed that the instalment plan option was not available. Called Olympus and was told they were still working with the bank to implement this option and will be available by end of the next 7 days. I was advised to keep trying myself until I see that option appear. I told the lady that I wouldn't want to miss the pre-order and asked if I should just go ahead with the purchase just to be on the safe side as I need the lens by end Dec. She told me not to worry as they have ample stock and i should check back again around mid Nov just to play safe. But the pre-order was closed within the next 24 hrs.

I was so angry when I learn later that the instalment option was taken down only temporarily & was put back shortly, before the 1st pre-order closed. AND some people were actually notified by Olympus to quickly lock in their order before it closed!

I kindof wonder 1) why they need to lie on the reason for the instalment removal, 2) why they asked me to keep trying myself when others could be notified, 3) why they gave such false assurance that i will not miss the pre-order when there is a chance that this will happen. I wonder if there were others who had the same encounter/treatment. I sent Olympus an online feedback on this and they didn't even bother to respond. Very disappointed with them and probably will not buy anything from them again.

I didn't receive any so called VIP treatment u mentioned. When they announced the preorder on their social media, I preorder on the next day and it just went through. Their installment payment indeed had a problem so I just pay by full amount. I don't know where u get ur information on other people was informed that the installment options were available, so that they r able to have 1st hand info on this. It's our due diligent to keep on check on the website when it was available. I even informed the forum that the 2nd batch was available to preorder.

Bro , why not call Olympus instead and hear what they have to say ?

Clims and bhtan83, I agree with that it's only one's due diligence to check the website for updates. I was also checking by myself when I was helping a bro preorder too and the preorders this time was fast and furious till by the first 12 hours , stocks for the 1st shipment was almost gone.

Olympus was very swarmed by questions throughout the preorder period as no one honestly expected a <$2000 including 1.4x TC deal to happen (it most prob won't happen again) and it's only fair if one make a bit of effort to be updated.

But I do agree if u sent feedback , Oly should reply ,hence again , if u r comfortable - pm me Your contacts and I'll ask Oly to call u 2 back or u can always take the initiative and call them at 1800-6596-787

Agreed with Keith on this, being angry doesn't help, it's a busy period for all the service centers because it's the school holiday, everyone will send their gear in for inspection (even if there's no need for it), so even for me who knows the staff there, I have to wait just as long as anyone else when servicing their gear during the peak period.

Have you worked in service line before? It's not necessarily lying, it could that it slipped their mind, they've really kept a set for you, they really had problems and it was fixed, who knows? I don't see a reason for them to need to lie on the reason for installment removal, especially since they won't gain anything. As mentioned before, where did you get your information that others are notified? I myself didn't get any call from them after being with Olympus for years.

Just relax or you'll find that there's a lot of things to be angry about everything. You mentioned that you need the lens by end Dec, for a paid shoot or a holiday? There's a saying for this, Murphy's Law states that "anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". So even if you managed to get a set in the first wave, who's to say that shipment will not be delayed? Or there's not enough stock in the world and not everyone will be able to get it in Dec, or in Jan?

Who are you gonna blame then? Olympus for the slow production? Or the shipping company for delays?

We've all survived without the 40-150 pro lens for years, I'm sure we'll all still be fine even if there's not enough lens to go around anytime soon. Wonglp has been trying to poison me with the m43 for years and I always told that I'm still waiting hahaha. At the end of the day, we all gotta chill, or else the world is gonna be a very sian place to live in

I am not a VIP member or connected preferred customer but Olympus called me to tell me that they are launching a 2nd pre order after I emailed them saying that the 1st one is sold out. And they called me up to confirm my order a few days later and informed me that my len will come end Jan expected.

I want to dispel the myth that Oly is selectively calling pple up. I don't think this is the case. I only bought from them directly a EM5 with kit len in 2010 so I don't think I am VIP. It is just basic customer service.

Let's just say I am lucky person to catch the last train for the 1st batch of preorder. I won't say I am VIP or anything because what I did was monitor this thread and check their preorder website frequently until I saw that installment plan was resumed. And I just click and buy immediately.. That's it. I didn't even attend any hands on or call Olympus etc. They emailed me two days after I placed the order to ask for my contact number and called me to advise on the arrival. That's all. I am not sure whether they are consistent with all customers but I don't think that relates to VIP treatment etc. to be fair, I think this is just normal customer service. Probably they have lotsa orders to handle and thus take more time to contact every customer. My two cents - and this is the first time I login to their online store to purchase things.

Sorry to hear about your experience bro, hopefully Olympus do respond to you soon. Spoke to the customer service for the servicing of my EM1 and they seem pretty ok, guess the response for the 40-150 was too overwhelming.

Looking forward, any bro's going to Japan to bring back a few sets, please count me in:D. Saw from the other thread, lens+TC about 1.6k, but I don't think warranty is valid in SG

around 1670 - 1680 if pay cash. if CC , around $17xx
Map Camera : ¥161,740
after 8% tax rebate ¥148,801

but of course unless that person is ur personal friend, maybe he will just sell at the same price. else u might be looking at adding $50-$100 or more

Well it would seem that I did not receive the 'normal' customer service from Olympus. I only got the auto-reply email after my first batch pre-order went through... no email asking for contact no. or call advising on ETA of lens like some of the 'lucky' people here. Perhaps I should just blame myself for being an unlucky person who had caused the hiccup in Olympus' otherwise 'normal' customer service. :(

www.pricejapan.com or global.rakuten.com/en/ are other alternatives. No warranty of course.
