Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

I am using the 16 mm f2.8 also. I love it for its sharpness. I shoot at F8. Anything more, diffraction occurs.

Btw, I don't think it gives u 32 megapixel on a7rz

Good to know others are using this nice little lens too.

The 32-megapixel figure comes from the resolution of the edited photo which is 6,870 x 4585 pixels = 31,498,950 pixels, or approx 32 megapixels.

The original uncropped/unedited photo's resolution is 7,360 x 4, 912 pixels = 36,152,320 pixels, or approx 36 megapixels.

I am far from being an expert with this, and it's just based on a layman's logic. I of course can be very badly mistaken, and if so, my apologies for any misinformation.

One night I was happily playing with my A7 and charge right after that to prepare for a trip to the zoo. When I reached the zoo, I attempted to switch on the camera but it just doesn't seems to response. Tried charging with power bank but to no avail. Came back and insert a totally new battery (tore out from packaging) but it still doesn't work. The camera is totally dead. Now the camera is in the service centre and the technicians suspected that it might be a motherboard failure. Anyone experience the same issue with their A7? Still puzzled that my A7 died overnight while charging.

Can share with us what USB charger you using (xxxx mA, compatible to Apple, etc)? I have not used any nor try with battery bank as I have old charger from Nex and use spare battery.

Oic. For me, I refer to the size indication on the LCD. Let me check again.

Personally I do hop it's 36 MP. Haha

Just want to share.

For those looking for a compact budget uwa lens, you may want to consider the SEL1628.

This is what it looks like mounted on my A7R:

Test shot, straight from the camera with baffle removed from the rear of the lens, very noticeable vignetting with soft edges and corners:

Vignetting removed with cropping in LR5 with some editing, edges/corners still soft but overall image is usable, image becomes approximately 32 megapixels on the A7R:

The SEL1018 is obviously the much better choice, but considering the price of the SEL1628 ($100~150 in BNS) and the pancake size, this could be another option for the budget-conscious user.

Wow not bad for a cheap lend.. hi bro can you share the original picture ?

your gaffer the camera look nice where do you get it ? can share too ?

The original picture is the second one, unedited and uncropped straight from my A7R.

The body covering I got from www.aki-asahi.com/store. Quite cheap and easy to apply, with video instructions.

Hi All, I have been a Nikon user all my life since film days. I'm keen in getting a 36mp camera body, struggling whether D800 or A7r. I like macro photography, the only draw back for A7r is the twin lighting system that I prefer. Any expert here can advice what are the available twin flash system that is compatible with A7r. Thank you.

Hi All,

Can anyone enlighten me regarding off cam flash? I'm currently using A7 with Sony F43am + hot-shoe adapter. My question is what items do i need for me to do off cam flash on my current rig? Any suggestion on brand or something?

Hope to hear some advice from you guys. Thanks in advance.

Regards to all,
Ry

ha i think if you want to pixel peep, the 16mm F2.8 shouldnt be on your list of considerations

hi bro sorry, i mean the actual file @ 36mp. I am used to pixel pipping :)

How would you'll shift the focus setting around? I'm struggling with it. I'd program the C1 button for "focus setting" then shift around using the left right up down button. But just not quick enough.. Maybe it's just me.
