Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

I used to have images D800 + 24 mm f1.4G, D800 + 35 mm f1.4G vs Sony a7r w FE 35 f2.8.

Nikon wins in terms of noise and AF, Sony wins in terms if sharpness.

Sony wins on weight too, that's why you swap, ha ha!

do you keep any nikon lens for A7 ?

I have 16-35 F4 coming as a gift, thinking of keeping it.. now searching for ebay for cheap adapter..

Guys, is there a way to set copyright for EXIF data? I'm new to Sony. My Canon can..

One night I was happily playing with my A7 and charge right after that to prepare for a trip to the zoo. When I reached the zoo, I attempted to switch on the camera but it just doesn't seems to response. Tried charging with power bank but to no avail. Came back and insert a totally new battery (tore out from packaging) but it still doesn't work. The camera is totally dead.

Now the camera is in the service centre and the technicians suspected that it might be a motherboard failure.

Anyone experience the same issue with their A7? Still puzzled that my A7 died overnight while charging.

BBTM is right. Sony wins in terms of weight.

I got rid of all my Nikon lenses. At a heavy loss but it was worth it. No point having big lenses too.

For studio commercial jobs, the FE 35 and 55 surpass any of the Nikon G lenses I have used w the D800.

It's just for leisure, photojournalism that it's lacking in fast lens and quick AF.

If u are a street shooter, you need to consider what u really need.

I got the Fe 35 but will miss my sigman35 1.4 bokeh.
The branded adapter like metabone and the vol... Very pricy.

Looking for cheap adapter at eBay. $27 with shipping.

Try to see how sigma 35 and nikon 16-35 perform in a7.

If is good will grab nikon 85 1.8.

Search on net not much of review for nikon lens on a7.

Be sure to check if the adaptpr is for fx or dx.

Just want to share.

For those looking for a compact budget uwa lens, you may want to consider the SEL1628.

This is what it looks like mounted on my A7R:

Test shot, straight from the camera with baffle removed from the rear of the lens, very noticeable vignetting with soft edges and corners:

Vignetting removed with cropping in LR5 with some editing, edges/corners still soft but overall image is usable, image becomes approximately 32 megapixels on the A7R:

The SEL1018 is obviously the much better choice, but considering the price of the SEL1628 ($100~150 in BNS) and the pancake size, this could be another option for the budget-conscious user.

Nice share hehe. I was thinking of getting this pancake too. Cheap lens to play with and really compact! Wonder how it will fare with the uwa extension attached!

that should be an interesting option too.

Nice looking A7r too by the way hehe. Not sure if there is any custom distortion correction profile for the 16mm f2.8 in Full frame mode, if available should make the performance more acceptable!

Thanks bro, actually got the idea from you hehe.

Been trying to get a used VCL-ECU1 at b&s with no luck, a brand new set is not too expensive, but may not work out well on FF, so a little risky too.

most reviews suggest the VCL-ECU1 improves the IQ on the 16mm, so maybe it will work :)

I am using the 16 mm f2.8 also. I love it for its sharpness. I shoot at F8. Anything more, diffraction occurs.

Btw, I don't think it gives u 32 megapixel on a7rz
