[ OFFICIAL RELEASE 2010.09.14 ] - Olympus E-5

That is true...

Although i have switched camp. I am here reading this thread with interest as my previous Olympus E-3 & high grade lens i have enjoyed using a lot, really... I have been with Olympus from the E-330 onwards for 5yrs or so. Looks like i did the right thing by selling all my olympus stuff & switched camp from early this yr, though sometimes i still remembers fondly the cam & 12-60mm lens tat i had that i had taken a lot of great photos with.

The pros have Studio, thats the ver meant for them  U tried it? Pretty good & easy to pickup, unlike Capture NX2 from Nikon (not user frenly).
I've been using Studio for ages. Have you forgotten that Viewer has replaced Master and Studio? I don't like Studio because its slow and clumsy. It crashed of me on many occasions. Viewer is a big improvement but it doesn't remember the adjustment I'd done when I move on to the next ORF file. Also, it has not crash since I use it on a MBP running 64bit Snow Leopard. The processing speed is greatly improved and computer resources are better managed in this mode. :)

Hmm Oly with high iso is all I need, after comparing I still like Oly's color, even with kits lens the IQ and color are still nice. Oly + HG lens already very wow! Oly with SHG lens.. will be

U keep asking for feedback on features... Now i know who's the real MIB from Oly. HAHAHAHA!!
I didn't specifically ask for feedback on features. I was merely responding to a post.

By the way, I'm not some "real MIB from Oly". I'm just a normal guy with a camera that has developed a love-hate relationship with Olympus since March 2006. :bsmilie:

errr... i think the effect is intentional.

the contrast gives a nice 3d effect to the erstwhile mundane images as well.

if these were straight OOC, then i'd take a serious look at the E-5.
Then you should really take a serious look at the E-5. ;)

don't know; i'm emailed judy herrmann to ask.

she commented on facebook that iso1600 on the e-5 is almost as clean as the 400 on the e-3 though.
At least this is what the pre-production set has shown. Looks promising though... :)

Dun bluff. Ur disguise is exposed liao. The drunk man always says he's not drunk. HAHAHAHA!!

MBP not good enuf. U need the full i7 on a desktop like mac pro or at least an iMac to see the power. 6GB RAM is mandatory  Laptops all CMI la, unless its a Cleveo, literally a server packed in laptop form factor. 7-8kg IIRC :angel:

The new slogan for Oly....
SELL! SELL! SELL!

The E-5, if taken a look as a separate flag ship product for a camera company is utterly disappointing. Its more like an E-50.. which they should have made so then maybe the backlash of the 4/3 community wouldn't be so much and it could generate more interest into the possible next flagship. but since its here and they are the ones calling the shots.. oh well.

On a not so brighter note, it is an improved camera from the E-3 (an improved PEN as others would put it) so there's really nothing to complain about it. And if it delivers the quality and performance as promised(ISO and sharpness) sans the so so FPS rate I think it would be a decent camera if not a good one.

The last bone I have to pick is the price.. c'mon its not competitive at all... and if they are looking or marketing to make this camera an option as a backup for FF bodies then why the heck is it so expensive? Its not so far from lower end FF bodies already while the performance might not be on par with them. Who would choose this for their backup when a few more additional dollars and they get to keep to be in one system and therefore compatibility. Oly is way off, and it does seem like it will be the last 5-6 years of the Oly 4/3 with these kinds of moves by them.

I just hope the inevitable merging of 4/3 and m4/3 would be smooth that the 12-60 and 50-200 is perfectly usable. Else Oly really screwed up conceptualizing how the path of 4/3 would be right from the start and in all things business a clear vision is needed from the beginning.. and followed through.

me and my e30 for the next 3-5 years then, I can't seem to reconcile moving on to another system right now lol..

Oly = :thumbsd: for you this time around.

SELL! SELL! SELL!

I think I might take that quite literally...

I am also.....

I think I will pass on the E-5 for now and buy another one or two more 2nd hand e-1 bodies ;p

Heads up guys, high ISO 3200 and 6400 images out, though not really official samples, seem pretty good to me High ISO Images

wat ? SGD3.2K !!!!
may be street price is 15% off. SGD2.7K more reasonable.

$2.7k is still not reasonable. Look at the prices for the E-1 and E-3.

Also, there is still the heat from a faster processor and the new implementation of Art Filters to think about. And battery drain issue too. Glad Sanyo came to save the day for the batteries. They are white like Eneloops... nice. Might buy a few of the new batteries. Looks nice.

I think E-3 was $2700 when it was launched? Or was it $2400 + $300 for the HLD-4 tat i had spent on the E-3 then, can't remember...

The Pentax K-7 is $1338 now & have features much like the E-5... who will want the E-5 at $2.4K or $2.7K.

It was $2.4k bundled with the HLD-4 for the first three months. And they gave away additional BLM-1 to boot. Now they are making everyone pay a lot more.

For me it's the 100% viewfinder and the weathersealing, but at least same or better image quality than E-30.

There were times I wished I had an E-3 before...

Lucky you actually. As a E-30 owner, you should upgrade to the E-5 since there aren't that much difference between the E-30 and E-3.

But expect to be screwed when the E-50 comes out. Maybe. Who knows?
