[ OFFICIAL RELEASE 2010.09.14 ] - Olympus E-5

Gentlemen, the world will not stop spinning just because Oly launched a seemingly obsolete camera.

They already did it before with the E-1! :bsmilie:

Yup.

Must get the production e-5 at the end of the month for a weekend of tests - I've got something in mind.

why not a durability test, since ruggedness is its selling point. Ill be volunteering to thrash the piece of crap around....

Heh, no need.

My interest is only in the image quality; everything else is secondary.

I don't think a production set will be ready by the end of this month...

Sounds like "The Prisoner's Love Song".

Well, they are obviously, clearly in love. There is no remedy for love after all. And to quote - "Where there is love, there is pain."

As for Olympus, I guess one of their motto is what Abraham Lincoln said - "With the catching ends the pleasures of the chase." :dunno:

I think the E-5 is still ok, except for the price. Some people new to Olympus may still like it. If it is at least as good as the E-PL1 in terms of sharpness, then this can be the selling point, very sharp IQ DSLR in its price range and even beyond. This is assuming no problems in other areas like banding ,etc ...

With such IQ, older Olympus DSLR users will also give more justice to their HG/SHG lenses, if they can afford to sell old body and buy E-5. I was hoping no AAF at all like Leica's digital Ms, but that's the way it is.

Anyway, as Drakon said, the world won't stop spinning. Just go forth and take more, and better pictures .

Olympus US has listed the price at USD1,699.99. Lets hope that the local market can get the SGD equivalent...

1) It will be launched at 2.4k like the E-3.

2) Retail price will be less.

3) There is hope that it may be cheaper due to weakening of the Japanese Yen.

4) But if SG Govt does smart things like weakening the SGD, then it may be back to square one.

Saw some sample photos on this forum. You have to register to see the pictures. The E-5's image quality looks really good. Good colour rendition, high sharpness and you can see alot of texture on objects. Feeling kinda excited about the image quality. :)

I just wish Olympus will commit to optical viewfinders.

That's more like it. Most likely bundling it with the battery grip and additional battery like the last time with the E-3, and the deal would be sweet. That sounds a lot more reasonable.

looks like no bundles lens anything,,,,

If 2.4K with some nice bundles, I can probably consider it. And like Drakon09 said, I can't live without my 12-60/50-200mm combo. It's the only thing that's stopping me from going over to another brand. Oh and the working dust filter too.

Ahh the lens again :) so far most Oly user staying cause

1. they've invested on Oly Lenses
2. they love thier lens so much
3. They love Oly color

but for how long oly lovers could hang on? :bheart:

Honestly, I'm quite surprised by the the response towards the E5. Olympus don't release a camera, we get doom and gloom about the e-system. Olympus releases a camera, we still get doom and gloom about the e-system.

At the end of the day, is there another system that can offer as much value and quality at the cost of an E5 + 12-60 & 50-200? (under $5k)

As many here have already noted, the ZD lenses is the true value of the e-system. The E5 offers a upgrade in the already excellent image quality we get from the system. IMO, that is worth the upgrade.

Because the lenses are truly awesome. I can shoot anything and everything in the world with those two lenses. Plus, the quality is a guarantee.
