[ OFFICIAL RELEASE 2010.09.14 ] - Olympus E-5

Why bother? Just save in DNG natively, instead of ORF. And bundle Lightroom or Capture One. :)

As for price - slightly used 5DMk2s and D700s are around the $3k mark at the moment. ;p

Hondas asking for BMW prices... go figure.

1.7 is max ill pay for this. anything further im going canon.

You can go there tomorrow. Or wait until early 2010 for the E-5 to drop to the S$1.7k pricetag.

In conclusion,

If you are a non E-3 owner, then this is the camera to get.

If you own a (or couple of) E-3s, then wait for your E-3 to break and then buy the E-5.

At the end of the day, if you are still on the E-System, there aren't any choices. And I am sure Olympus is NOT hearing the users. Only the "professionals" whom they drink sake with.

I might get the E-3 Q3 2011. When the prices starts sliding down a little, but not at launch. Not like the E-3 when I had to carry a few pieces back from Beijing. The E-5 does not light my fire.

And now I really have to hate myself for selling the Nikon D3. Should have kept it if I knew this is how the E-System is going to end.

No regrets for the lenses though... Zuiko Digital is still one of the best glass in the world.

Sigh... Why Olympus, why?

Hope they do change and change their strategy, I've decided to save up my NS kaching for another system in the event anything happens to the 4/3s :bsmilie:

-cough- I am ready to part with the E-system. It's just when would be the right and suitable time to move. ;p If I have a reason to justify my move, bye bye! But for now, I'm still here. :bsmilie:

To each his own my young brother :bsmilie: At the moment, still giving them a chance to change, if next one still not there yet, I give another chance, after that, off I go somewhere over the rainbow :D

The Nikon D7000 is looking really tempting and Nikon has come out aggressively with new primes of late.

The E-5, if taken a look as a separate flag ship product for a camera company is utterly disappointing. Its more like an E-50.. which they should have made so then maybe the backlash of the 4/3 community wouldn't be so much and it could generate more interest into the possible next flagship. but since its here and they are the ones calling the shots.. oh well.

On a not so brighter note, it is an improved camera from the E-3 (an improved PEN as others would put it) so there's really nothing to complain about it. And if it delivers the quality and performance as promised(ISO and sharpness) sans the so so FPS rate I think it would be a decent camera if not a good one.

The last bone I have to pick is the price.. c'mon its not competitive at all... and if they are looking or marketing to make this camera an option as a backup for FF bodies then why the heck is it so expensive? Its not so far from lower end FF bodies already while the performance might not be on par with them. Who would choose this for their backup when a few more additional dollars and they get to keep to be in one system and therefore compatibility. Oly is way off, and it does seem like it will be the last 5-6 years of the Oly 4/3 with these kinds of moves by them.

I just hope the inevitable merging of 4/3 and m4/3 would be smooth that the 12-60 and 50-200 is perfectly usable. Else Oly really screwed up conceptualizing how the path of 4/3 would be right from the start and in all things business a clear vision is needed from the beginning.. and followed through.

me and my e30 for the next 3-5 years then, I can't seem to reconcile moving on to another system right now lol..

Oly = :thumbsd: for you this time around.

You should look at some other brands before making fps comments. When I shoot my M8, at continuous the fps I think is 0.75fps. :bsmilie:

AF is non-existent. Cannot shoot anything more than 135mm technically.

Come on, you should compare apples to apples! DSLRs to DSLRs! :bsmilie:

No features, no market share, no market share means no need to continue. Oly must sell cameras, lenses & accessories to stay in this game. Btw, Nikon new D7000 doesn't have a swivel screen, so thats a plus for Oly. See? Features help sell equip.

I think the world has moved past the basic, technology needs to be challenged to improve. Oly can't stay put in 1970s & HOPE things get better. Bizz is like a game of chess, need brains & strategy

Why u poke at me like that? I poke u back!! HAHAHAHAHA!! CS now becomes FB. So u r saying i'm wild?? "Born to be wild~~~~..." (thats another song for u)

Seriously, have u tried Studio2? Go give it a chance

Studio was replaced by Viewer 2, which isn't the same as Viewer 1 at all.

Yes, the Nikon D7000 looks much better than the D90 it replaces and much better than the E-30 and even quite good against the E-3. The trouble with Nikon is that you have to spend much more to get the same lens quality than you do with Olympus.

I could go a little cheaper with the body, but go much more expensive with lenses to have an equivalent system. It's an easy choice for first time buyers, though, but so is the Pentax K-r.

Heh, if I considered moving on I'd be in a fix as well.

I'm not going to lug 800 pound gorillas around so Canon is out.

I'd look at Nikon but them Nikkors are expensive.

Pentax is the economical option but their range of lenses is, er, strange - to me at least.

That is one reason why I chose Olympus, and why I'm not changing systems for now. Although it looks more and more likely that my next body will not be 4/3rds.

Well, Nikon does have to ensure that the lens is sharper over a larger field of view compared to Olympus.

i'm staying put as well. i'm actually thinking of upgrading to an E-30 from my E-620. also, if oly releases an E-50 or E-630 or that rumored hybrid after I sold all my 4/3 glass... i think i'd go :mad2:

i'll wait and see til 2011 for the love of zuikos
