OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 6D - User Thread - Part 3

I saw in the previous thread that someone bought 6D with 24-105 for RM7500, which is about SGD3k. This is quite cheap compare to what we pay here which is at least $3.4k now. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy from Malaysia?

Also saw some shops selling the grey set, what is grey set?

Sorry asking so much, first time paying so much for a camera so I kind of lost here.

Prob only warranty issue?

Grey sets are those brought from overseas so they do not hav local warranty but they are available at a lower price

I was the one who got from Malaysia at that price. You should be wary of tax when coming back. must take out the cam from the box and flatten it, or even better discard the box there. so that it'll look like you didn't buy from there.

also check the warranty card s/n matches the product. mine got kinda messed up.

warranty is only in Canon Malaysia, not international.

also I don't recommend getting any other thing in Malaysia as it is more expensive than sg. I got ' persuaded' to buy a nisi uv filter for 170rm. sg ended up selling 35sgd only. damn.

I'm just a little dulan he may be selling me parallel stock at local price

May i know how much did u pay for the original grip? Didn't know that they are on sale here already.

buy from msia gets you no singapore warranty. you also run the risk of being followed and robbed after you happily bought the camera. Some robbers like hang around IT malls and targets people who have just bought their expensive item. Immigration officers will tax you if they found that its new item, u can throw away the box.
Pros is you save a few hundred dollars.

agreed, not really that cheap to justify the hassle/risks involved. I went to one of the popular shops (patronized widely by MY photog forum) in JB, checked out the price of 6D kit 2 and was only S$3750+. If kena GST at customs, the price is similar to what the SG shops sells with local agent warranty coverage.

Can PM me the shop's name? I agree that not that easy to buy in Malaysia but the price different is quite huge.

I think this Techno is selling grey set? How does the warranty work? Any other people has feedback about grey set, as in whether easy to claim warranty?

grey set means shop warranty. they gamble that nothing will happen within 1 year.

Canon Malaysia warranty is 15 months via online registration

Yup,they are selling grey set.Warranty by the shop,1yr.You can send to canon & later produce the receip to claim from techno as stated in their term & cond.I'm not to worry about the warranty status.Just send in your camera once a year for servicing at canon. It's quite cheap.

Want to share my "hands-on" experience with BG E-13 today with 6D. It is made of plastic (or mostly plastic) and therefore I think the price is much cheaper than 5D3's grip BG E-11. It helps a bit to balance my hands on horizontal holding but I don't like it in vertical holding position, for which it was designed. I feel that it is oversized (my hands are not small btw.). When switch from horizontal shooting to vertical, the felling was like holding a brick. lol.. The grip bottom is quite big, flat and not comfortable to hold.. I think canon design it in such a way to cater for new AA battery magazine design. In the end, i didn't buy. I wanted the grip for better handholdability but after testing, I am happier without grip.

A battery grip is not for everyone. I have a grip for my 5D3 and I use it sparingly at best.

I have it for my 60d..it's has a bigger grip than the one on the camera..but it offers more surface for me to grip..my hands are small..but I like the grip...if I don't use the grip my pinky will be sticking out n off the camera..only crap thing is that the quality isn't fantastic...less than 6 months into using it the corner bit of rubber near the shutter button is starting to come off....and near the tripod mounting area....crap..I have to find good glue for this

it's true. i find the BG-E13 much bigger than the 6D grip. i find it kinda too big for me. damn. feels weird.

ha yes....the canon BGs are behind competition in terms of design. but i do find the new 8 way control dial to be better for use with the BG compared to the older control dials as this new one is bigger.

the BG is useful for me when I pair the 6D with big / fat lenses haha... otherwise it stays at home

Grip wont be so popular for 6D because its meant to be small, light and travel camera.
