Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part I

Heres my gear: Canon 60D, kit lens 18-200mm, 50mm f1.8, 24-105mm f4. nissin Di622 mark II, Canon crumpler neckstrap n Caselogic slingbag.

So far do you face any issue when using the Nissin flash off shoe? I think of getting the Di622 mk II also, but am worried if it will work well when used offshoe.

Anyone know if 60d mount with a 430ex and still be able to wirelessly trigger another off shoe 430ex when flashing at the same time instead of using pop up flash to trigger?

Hi people, which remote shutter cable do you guys normally use for the 60D? I understand that not all remote offered by Canon is compatible with the 60D. I am intending to get one soon.

I use the Phottix shutter release and find it better than the Canon version. You can use it wirelessly or wired. When in wireless mode, it also uses a "radio" technology so that you can use it in front or back of the camera.

wired one? considering wireless?

Hi there, do u guys find that the Mirror lockup sounds after u press the shutter is very loud as compared to 550d or 7d? I am using a 60d with a tamron 28-75 len. I know the auto-focus of this len is noisy, but, when after pressing the shutter, the so called 'tag-tag' sound i believed its the mirror lockup is louder than other canon model or even the nikons. Or is it the len? I havent got other len to try out yet. THanks

Hi there!

Just got my 60D with 18-55mm last Sunday from Cathay Photo, Marina Square. This is my first DSLR. Hope to learn a lot from ClubSnap. :)

i got my 60D with 18-135 from the B&S thread. my first DSLR too!
i do have a question when I was taking photos at night and the flash kept popping out in full auto and turning to "non-flash" didn't help my photos at all.
i know this is really really noob, but any advice?
previously have been using a lumix lx1 and pentax a40 which i still carry around for quick PnS shooting so trying to learn and take better photos on my 60D

I would strongly recommend a tripod. Night photography is very different. To get good sharp photos, place your camera on a tripod, turn the auto flash off and take a photo. This is an oversimplification... there are many other factors that can affect your photo but the main thing is to prevent as much camera shake as possible. Using a tripod is a good starting point.

What about using the P mode? :)

Hi,guys i'm using 60D since last year Nov that i bought.
so far so good...this oso is my 1st DSLR cam,i oso like night shooting, weather very nice...

tried that just now when i went to the singapore flyer.. not too bad, and i didn't bring a tripod so i just used the railings for support instead and held it as steady as possible.
thanks!
now to play around with iso settings and focus settings next!

Me too. I also just bought my 60D with a 17-70 f/2.8-4 from MS Colour. Really no regret getting it. And makes me another happy photographer. I was quite surprised by its performance in the day and night shoot. Overall it is a great camera! These are some of my samples photo using 60D & Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM. :)

There you go! You've got the right idea! Just experiment and play around with your settings and you'll eventually discover a good combination that works for you. Like many things, there are several ways or combination's to achieve the same thing.

These are two photographs of the Singapore Flyer taken with my Sigma 10-20mm. Both of these photos were taken within minutes of each other. I tried several different combination of settings until I settled on something that worked (for me). You can see how different they are in terms of composition and colours:

Anyone know for APS-C camera (60D), which are canon lenses is suitable for F1? Location will be either at Pit or Padang GS.

probably a 70-200 2.8? considering the cars are gonna be quite some distance away

Yeah I agree with icychilled too. Either a EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM II, EF28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM or EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM will be good for all round F1 lens. If slightly cheaper will be the EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM. Cheers!

interesting shots! i'm still using the 18-135 kit lens so playing around with it a lot a lot more first before i decide what to get next.
went to Alan photo and he suggested to get wide angle lens, 2nd battery, cleaning kit, tripod. O.O
and i only went to get UV filter and LCD protector along with a bag.
i ended up with a lowepro bag, UV filter and LCD protector. feeling the starting pinch of DSLR photography. haha

depending on the distance away from which you're shooting. can consider the 300 2.8. used on a 7D (same crop factor so same focal length), no issues. but you'll probably need to move around with a monopod as it'll be pretty heavy.

:)

Hi all seniors, 1st time user of DSLR here; bought my set (camera body + Tamron 17-50 f2.8) on Sat. Very cheem... But still trying to learn. Here's a pic i took yesterday but i was like walking and snapping so not so clear... Taken in jpeg but i read that better to take in RAW? But RAW like got a few kinds. May I know y'all take in mRaw or sRaw or...? TIA!
