Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part I

Do note that tripods/monopods were disallowed previously, so do not think that the rules will change this year. I've also read somewhere that there's a limit to the focal length allowed, please do check before the event to avoid disappointment.

hmm, went in with friends last year with monopod and a 300mm.

Yo! Gimme 5! :p

Anyway, are u able to use your flash off-camera wireless? Can't seem to get mine working.. tried the different settings, but still no go... :embrass:
yes i can..
did you set the channel correctly??
and i think the sensor of the sensor of the speedlite must face to the camera..
and dun forget to open ur built in flash..

this post is so quiet.. zzZz..

hehe... cause 60D has been out for awhile le...

To use wireless flash.. firstly go to menu... 1st page... then go to flash control..
then go to built in flash option... then activate wireless flash... last option..
first one is using your built in flash to activate your external flash... 2nd is only your external flash is activated... lastly is both built in and external are activated..
I dun think the 2nd option can work... have to read the manual to check it out... anyway... i normally use the first option...

Next... u need to activate your built in flash... then press and hold the zoom button on your external flash... it will activate wireless and the infra red will be blinking... with that... it is ready to go...

hope it helps... :-D

For the 60D users, how are you satisfied with the camera so far? Im jumping ship coming from a nikon D300s because recently, ive spent most of ny time now capturing family pictures and baby shots rather than landscapes. Been thinkin that the vary angle could help to add new level of creative options particularly for baby shots. :)

Love my 60D. Of course it's a big upgrade from 300D.

I thought I would use the tilty screen for photoshooting but I didn't. One big reason is the lag time it takes for the camera to take the photo when in liveview. It takes about 1s after you press the trigger for the photo to be taken. With kids that move around, you lose your shot most of the time. The tilty screen I feel is more for those people that do videos or still/macro photography until canon get that lag time down.

For kids and shooting indoor, you probably need to bring the shutter speed to min 1/60s. I think the nikon system seems to handle noise at higher iso better (what I know is comparison of top end canon n nikon bodies) so that would help your shutter speed. So for your usage I think stick to nikon.

Thank you. I have no more Nikon cam, im about to jump ship and been thinking on this model until i heard the shutter lag when on Live view. Is it really that bad or still tolerable? Will i be limited due to this issue? Can others share their views too when using the vary angle lcd?

So far I find the Quick AF mode as being the most usable AF for live-view. The other modes (Live AF, Live AF with Face Detection) are pretty slow.
The vari-angle I've only used for shooting stationary cats.

Got it last night, body only. So far, so good!!!

Here are my test shots -

What shutter lag? Regarding the vary-angle LCD, Canon got it right. Since you open the lcd sideways, it does not interfere when you mount your camera in a tripod. I think it is also very durable since the design is similar to video camcorders that Canon and other companies have been producing.

Just gotten 60D today :)

Was deciding between 600D and this. But the moment i held both of it. I decided on 60D as 600D seems a little small to grip and my hand felt more comfortable with 60D. :) Maybe i have bigger hands :(

What lens are you using for these shots? Nice details. Also, how much did you get for the body?

hey there, I jumped over from using a Nikon D300, pretty similar. :)

as mentioned, the focusing during live view is pretty slow on the 60D but based on experience I think it's pretty much the same on the other cameras? like on a Nikon D300 or D3, focusing in live view took a pretty long time. the fastest focusing is still using the viewfinder. but yeah the swivel screen will definitely allow ease in composing more creative shots.

hmm for Canon 60D against Nikon D300S/D300, I've used both for some period of time, I'd say the Canon 60D's noise control is comparable to that of Nikon D300S/D300. I was pretty surprised myself. :)

Thanks. What made you decide to jump ship to Canon 60D? I'm coming from D300s :) just want to know which interest you in this model. Cheers

Hey guys, any idea where I can buy an aftermarket mini hdmi to hdmi cable? I know I can get them from ebay but is there any place locally that has it?
