Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part I

Hi All,

I'm torn between A55 and 60D, though they are different breed of machines.

A55 have most features to attract prospectives buyers, fun to have features like autofocus during video, Auto HDR, GPS, light etc. But it feels like a toy, the EVF isn't really fine enough for focusing not a good enough replacement over OVF. Though it is really extremely useful in very dark situation where one can't see through OVF at all, it's EVF automatically brighten up to allow focusing (brilliant)

60D and Canon's IQ is one of the best if not the BEST so far, the feel of holding 60D and handling it, is definitely a more sturdy and feel a little more "serious" than the feeling of A55 toy.

But when I'm in KL yesterday, when I saw Canon 60D with 18-200mm kits, cost only RM4,300 (S$1,800) ONLY, and comes with 3 years warranty (Malaysia warranty, no international).

That's a cool S$400 to S$500 savings from S$2,290 price in Singapore, perhaps without freebies, Singapore set may cost S$2,150 cheapest. I'm very tempted to get it.

It is definitely cheaper than A55~!

But need advice for the followings,
1. Is there a difference between the units sold in Singapore and the one in Malaysia, eg Singapore set is Made in Japan, while Malaysia is Assemble in Malaysia. Or made in any other countries.
2. Could the Lens included made in different countries?
3. Warranty is one of the issue, but Canon being reliable, I suppose we do not need to visit the repair centre for the 3 years any way. I didn't visit SONY's repair centre for past 2-3 years since my A350.
4. It can't be scam nor it is a pre-owned as this model is very new, and a few shops selling at the same price.

I don't think there is a difference for the 60D body as all are made in Japan... the kit lens (18-55 mm) may be made in Japan or Malaysia... not too sure about 18 - 200 mm...

Ehm guys, is there something inside the camera's menu i need to turn on to access the 1080p 30fps?? I only get 24fps & 25... But almost everywhere tells me there's a 30 fps function... Also what's up with the canon lens brochure saying about IS mode 1 & 2?! I don't see anything to switch modes with in the menu :/ or is it just my kit lens :dunno:

Under the menu, you need to switch to NTSC (instead of PAL). You'll then be able to assess 24 and 30 fps at 1080p resolution.

As for IS mode 1 and 2, it's only available for specific lenses.

Thanks for this advise, how to copy from my thumb drive instead from url ?

u need to put your photos online at hosting sites such as photobucket..

For photobucket, once the photos are uploaded, they have a simple button to click beside the pic to copy the codes such that u do not have to type it out manually to post on phpbb forums such as this one.

Hi Guys,

Newbie here and need some advice.
i am currently deciding on either a 24 105 lens with a 60D body or just going with the 18 200 kit. I have done some maths on the cost and 24 105 seems to make no sense. The cropping factor is also one reason why this lens does not make sense. but its the build quality and image quality that i am craving for.

thanks in advance

The build quality and image quality of a 24-105 mm is definitely better than a 18-200 mm lens... It has USM as well so the auto focus is amazingly fast... useful if u are taking fast action like panning... sports... etc... but 18-200 mm got the benefits of the wide angle and a longer range... Hence, if ya wanna use the 24-105 mm efficiently, u need to pair it with a ultra wide angle lens... the 24-105 mm can be use for street shots, portraits, sports, landscape, etc... In short it is useful for almost everything except when ya wanna take shots of buildings, interiors and in some situation landscape...

If u have no intention of getting a ultra wide angle... and still demand for good quality images, I would suggest u get a 15-85 mm instead... It is wider and 85 mm is a respectable focal length for most images... Hope it helps... :-D

Hi,

I am thinking of going to buy 60D body with Tamron 17-50 F2.8 lens today. Which shop offers the lowest price for these 2 items? I am thinking of MS. Suggestions please. Thanks in advance.
