OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 5D Mark III - User Thread - Part 5

Been a while since I visited Clubsnap, Happy New Year to everyone.
I agree as I switch from Canon 650D to 5D mk II.
Double the price and huge performance improvement.
The only thing sometimes I don't like when attending outings or events.
You get the stare from others that other's DSLR is smaller than mine.
LOL!

I get the same stares. A battery grip and a white telephoto lens makes it even worse!

Seriously guys, how would you answer when your friends/colleagues ask you how much

Well since you ask "seriously"...

I think that this question may be culturally based. In Canada I rarely get asked how much my things are. However within a week of arriving in Singapore a few years ago, I bought a brand new bicycle. As I left the front door of the shop with my newly purchased bicycle, a stranger whom I'd never met before, asked me how much I paid for the bike.

Not expecting a question like this from a stranger I was shocked. So I hesitated for a second or two and replied, "A bit of money". He asked again, "How much did you pay"? I repeated, "a bit of money". He wouldn't let the question drop so he asked me a third time. I didn't know what else to say so I disclosed the exact amount and rode off.

"Culture" which I understand as I also have friends from overseas. Same tactics in your quote that I used to evade people from
asking how much is the 5D mk iii.

Aiyo just use the method from most shop. ... about $4000, about $3000 etc.... kekekeke

i Just tell them roughly how much it cost. they never ask why buy so ex stuffs. they just envy.. haha...

Just to share my experience on this. Was in Penang just this week for a short visit
with family and as usual lugged my 5DKIII along. After eating in hotel restaurant
had asked help from a waitress to take a family group shot.

After which she said 'I only thought professionals carry this type of camera' I just
gave her a broad grin and said not necessary.

Good time to get the 5D now. Brand new grey set is selling at $3,448 locally.

Hi bro, any idea if there is any shop in particular that sells grey set but with 0% installment?

Just wan to check whether anyone has problem with getting the focus point on the shutter button? After upgrading from 60D I find that I have some issue getting to the focusing point. Once I half press the shutter button, likelihood I will get a snap on it.

Mine is fine. Button a bit more sensitive but once you get used to it, should be easy to locate the half press.

If you don't like this setting, you can always customised your buttons. I had my AF set to the AF On button, half press allows metering. My Ai Servo to the DOF button. Which I've find it useful.

If Canon were to introduce the Canon 5D Mark IV this year (2014 - I know that its still too early for a new model), what features would you want in it?

For me, I would like the following:

- a megapixel increase to 30mp
- increased dynamic range
- built-in flash (for fill light)
- GPS
- Wifi

With all the new FF cameras out from key competitors (Nikon, Sony), I think Canon should bring in a 5D mark IV soon.

Or perhaps, bring in a old-fashioned style camera, like what Nikon did for their Df?

Canon has a couple of very nice old-style cameras and should be easy to create one?

And Metering based on focus point...

Just realized the 1DX received a firmware update allowing exposure compensation in Manual exposure + Auto ISO mode. I hope the 5D3 gets this too. That and metering on focus point.
