OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 5D Mark III - User Thread - Part 5

i just bought mine couple of weeks ago...my big jump from other brand...im loving Canon now...:)

Just couple of weeks and 70-200 F2.8 L USM + 17-35 F2.8 L USM + 28-70 F2.8 IS USM L :o

It depends in the metering mode you are using and what's the situation.

e.g. If you are shooting a scene filled with snow with matrix metering, it's going to underexpose.

Let's say I shooting a sunset on a beach with evaluative metering at f16 iso 100 and for the shutter i just tune it until the metering to zero.

I can't speak for others, but from my personal experience with the camera's metering is that, it's more of a small tolerance range than a fixed value..

e.g. f16, ISO100. Lets say that metering at 0, shutter speed 1/100s, even when when I increase the shutter speed up or down a little (1/80 or 1/125), it's still at 0.

That said, I did not scientifically go and test my theory about it. But this never bothered me anyway.

Why does the metering differs when switch between VF & live view?

If you cover the VF and look the meter from the lcd, I think the metering will be the same. Because of the ambient light leaking thru the vf

a little OOT, does anyone using batt grip for their 5D3? if so, what brand that is reliable? thanks :)

My experience with Hahnel VG, it sometimes hangs the camera. Ergonomics are fine. I'd guess you pay for what you get!

I use the Canon BG. I'm not a big fan of battery grips because it makes the camera much larger IMO. But I use it sometimes when I need the extra battery power and for portrait photography.

The Canon brand usually goes on sale once a year and although the price is still not in the vicinity of 3rd party BG's, it is a lot cheaper than the normal retail price.

If you've never used a battery grip before, I would suggest renting one to try. It is only $10 to rent for a day.

When do the canon BG go on sale and how much is the discount?

It's been a couple of years, but I believe the sale was in late spring/ early summer and the discount was around $100.

Thanks, the discount is in US direct from canon?

I've personally used one from getbattery.net (sorry, account can't post links yet). Works like a normal BG, no hiccups or anything, but I just can't accustom myself to using one long term so I sold it away.

just say it costs too much? hahaha.

actually quite reasonably priced

Funan is the best place to buy. For best price, it is better to go in person or call the shops to get the best price. Some of the reputable shops include TK Photo, John316, Cathay Photo... among others.

Definitely cheaper!

The downside is u don't have Singapore warranty.

If not u can buy grey set that has no local warranty but shop.

Sharing a shot with the 5DMKIII. I find using a grip is indispensable especially in portraiture.

Beautiful... ahhh.... the portrait I mean! :)
