Hi fellow ClubSNAPPERS! i am fairly new to this forum so pls bear with me if i sound too noobish in my question :)
I am venturing into short film making and i was trained in using prosumer camcorders like Panasonic AVCCAMs. I do not own a DSLR but i have some experience in shooting pictures with them.
I have heard so much about the 5D Mark II and now with the Mark III, i am really tempted to get it.
However, the price is such a HUGE barrier to me and i am contemplating on settling for a 2nd hand Mark II. On the other hand, the Mark II does not have a mic output which is really a bummer :(
Everyone is telling me that i should get a lower end model and then spend the money on lenses but i feel that for HD recording, the body itself plays a very big part IMHO.
What do u all think? Any advice for an aspiring film making? :)

:)

Disagree. I played it unsafe the other time with my 7D. Shot with it in slight drizzle and the camera choked up. Some buttons were not functioning. I had to go home only after half hour of shooting. Very mood spoiler one. Then still have to send for servicing. Luckily nothing was wrong. The seals were ok, technician also not sure why the camera malfunctioned.

Know what you can risk and what you can't. If a fried DSLR is within your comfort zone, then by all means go ahead.

This is exactly the kind of experience that precludes me from shooting in moisture (rain or snow). To each their own.... some are risk adverse and some are not.

I trusted the weather sealing but it did not deliver. I still remember taking shelter in the phone booth, trying to figure out what went wrong.

Now, I avoid getting my cameras(the E-M5 as well) in precarious positions. Not because they cannot handle such situations, it is due to the fact that the cost of the camera overshadows everything. As a hobbyist, I earn nothing out of my gears, so my belief is there will always be a better time to shoot.

The risks goes down to each individual, I wouldn't recommend to shoot under harsh weather but no one's gonna stop you if you wanna.
Personally I've been shooting in abnormal conditions for years..even though the gears aren't even sealed. Certain shots only works in certain conditions..

The mark 3 wasn't completely naked..borrowed the hot shoe cover from my D700 though it didn't cover the whole mount. Recently saw a dude wrapped plastics around his flash and lens, that's a good solution actually if you wanna play safer.

My 2 cents, there's always safer, but never safe :)

The mark 2 is an excellent body for stills video..still the biggest bang for the buck for a 35mm sensor hd video. You might wanna look into the magic lantern software which will help you alot in filming :)

I really like this photo. The moisture adds a very attractive dimension to it. Well done!

Just my 2 bits.

I took these in moderate rain with a 5D2. From the time I spent with a 5D3, I'm sure it can take much more abuse.

Finally, got my 24-70 mk2 to pair with this baby!

Is the D800 still cheaper in the US or is it about the same as the 5D3 with the recent price drop?

Hi 5d iii users ~

Just like to know if the on-camera Noise Reduction apply to Raw files ? or just Jpeg Files ?
Any pros and cons between the "Standard , Low , High" settings ?

Thanks
