Fellow 5d iii owners...

Do you notice that evaluative metering seems to put a lot emphasis on the focus zone/spot? If you af on a white object, the metering will be 1/2 stop too fast(under). If you af on a black object, the metering will be 1/2 stop too slow(over). It is kinda like the evaluative metering is almost spot metering of af points...Anyone notice that? Anyway to let it just meter the overall scene with less emphasis on the af spot/zone?

Edit: By white subject or black subject, I meant an object taking just a tiny portion of the frame, not like taking portrait of a fair skin human vs a dark skin human.

not sure of its evaluative performance, been using spot metering all the way..

Never tried the evaluative metering on the 5D3 yet, been using center-weighted as a guide for me to expose manually to the right.

I never really noticed this..maybe i should give it a try but one thing i've noted about evaluative metering...it does tend to overexpose scenes with a dark center..For example, like the photo i posted of a nighttime concert...the performer was wearing black..i use evaluative metering and focus on the person, i get overexposed shots when the surrounding isn't as black...so maybe you're correct...i had to use -2/3EV for every shot i took that night.

4242's a good deal actually, don't think there are cheaper sets unless you head north..

Did anyone check the cleanliness of the new 5DM3 sensor as a base line data? I just checked my new toy for the sensor dust and the picture is attached. I expected the sensor to be extremely clean as my camera is just 2 weeks old and have not take it for out door shooting yet due to my tight schedules. Lens changes were done indoors at very clean dust free conditions. I am sure the dust on the sensor should have been present even before I bought it. Though the sensor cleaning can be done at CSC, it is really unacceptable to have such a high amount of dust particles in a new sensor and wondering what kind of quality control process does canon have. Please share your thoughts.

Lens used : 85mm f/1.8
Mode: Av
Aperture: 22
Iso mode:Auto
Computer monitor with white background was shot in RAW with manual focus mode. (Empty word file to cover the whole screen)

Processing: In Photoshop, the raw file was opened and processed as follows.

Go to Image/Adjustments/levels/auto. Then image size was adjusted (resizing) and saved as JPEG.

i had the same issue with you! The moment i tried my first len (70-200) to check, i could see dust. I bring it back to canon the following to get it clean and took est 1hr waiting time.

Actually the question is not whether there is dust but rather how much dust.

Thanks for sharing. Did you check the amount of dust after cleaning by CSC? Did you notice any improvement? I had similar issues with 5D2 in the past and cleaning by CSC did not really help. Dust particles simply moved from one location to other. Your feedback may be helpful to decide whether I need to go to CSC or not.

I dun really trust csc services. If it really not a major issue.. i will not services my 5dm3... maybe after 1 or 2 years.

If dust found within 1-2 weeks of buying, do you guys still need to pay for the cleaning? The picture of the dust reminds me of the 5D classic. That should not be happening to the new 5D3

That's quite bad. Mine was dust free out of box. Have you tried to activate the sensor cleaning manually?

mine is dust free too. did you do a sensor check when purchasing?

Do check your lens it might trap dust too

I agree with what you said. Last week I brought my m3 to CSC and the counter girl removed the body cap and flipped the cam up and down as though some kind of cheap cam. Damn TL.

They do not know our pain when we see them doing that. I think canon singapore should not like the customer service officer deal with precision equipment.

I too have similar experience at csc. The counter staffs need to know that the equipment they are handling, belongs to the customers. They ought to exercise care and caution when handling them, be it a 550D or 1DsMK3.

I really hate it when they walk around the service centre with the camera body, less the body cap.

Seriously.
