I tried m3 with 400mm 5.6 + canon TC 1.4 and the cam cannot autofocus but with compatible TC 1.4 it was OK. Canon said anything above 5.6 must manual focus. How come compatible can? he said he don't know. Asked him another Q why m3 with Tokina 11-16 2.8 the pics for 11-15 were all in the circle like the telescopic view we see in the movie. This, he told me to check with Tokina. Anyone can shed some light on this? Tks.

I can't answer the first one. As for the 2nd question, isn't the Tokina 11-16 a crop sensor lens?

Please elaborate on what your 'with compatible TC 1.4' is.

Your second problem is very simple. The Tokina 11-16 F2.8 is meant for use on a crop camera, not a full frame camera like the MkIII. Did you know there are lenses meant for crop and lenses meant for full frame?

Hello!

Can I ask what is the lowest price one can get a mkIII for? Just body alone.

I actually tested a 3rd party Kenko 1.4TC with a tamron lens and even at f8, it autofocuses no problem…it didn't work on my 60D but it worked on the 5d3..it surprised me actually..although i still wouldn't use a TC unless i really have to.
As for the tokina..i'm surprised you even managed to mount it on a 5d3…even with a TC..i'm surprised you managed to mount it on a TC. it's a pure crop sensor lens…a great one at that but it never works on a FF…that's why i sold mine..

Thinking of a getting an extra LP-E6 battery for the 5d Mark III, has anyone know where's the best price i could get? The original one of course.

Amazon, about $74.

Actually, non-Canon crop lenses will fit the 5D fine. It's just EF-S lenses that won't physically mount.

SEARCH..it's all over this thread…
It's $42xx at a few shops

I saw one post that it's not cheaper over in hongkong too? So $4.2k is the cheapest?

I think the consensus is if you're good at bargaining or know the seller, you might be able to get it at $41xx. Otherwise it's around $42xx.

TS, what TC are you using that allows your cam body to AF @ f/8?

As also pointed out by the above bros, I'm not sure if there's such TCs that provides AF capability @ f/8 - because Canon bodies cannot AF @ f/8 other than 1 series.

Yup! never use a FF before and suddenly realised the issue after you mentioned. Thanks!:)

Probably the kenko. I tried it before on my 7D last time, possible but a bit slow n sometimes AF fails. Btw, 1DX cannot AF at apertures > 5.6 too.

I think no matter how lowest the price is, the difference is around $10-$30 with most shops. Further delay in enjoying the cam will have greater losses!:bsmilie:

Kenko 1.4 though a bit slow. Tried it at night.

No lah, I never mount with a TC, it was a direct mount.

I was suspecting the Kenko too, but I'm not taking it as a TC that can provide AF at such small aperture.. the sensor needs light to focus and we know that the 1.4x converter cuts light reaching the sensor (during focusing) by 1 stop..

IDK if Kenko has the technology to overcome this restriction. Like you say, it's very slow and AF does fail even if possible :p

And for the 1DX.. it's a sad case to say. But it has yet to be launch.. so I don't count it into the existing 1 series yet :p

Sir, still learning lah, now I know. Thanks:)

Sometimes 3rd party TC can give af at f/8, even though canon say cannot and canon TC also cannot. Happens for other canon body too.

Oh yea, i forgot about that..i guess the reason why i sold was becuase i knew the only range i would be able to use was 16mm and anything less, it will vignette like mad…and anyways, i sold it off to buy a 17-40 at the same price i sold it for..so..it was a no brainer for me hehe..
