yes price is high. i dun plan to make movies...but i wanna do like 5-10min clips ya know? i was thinking of getting the Sandisk 4Gb Class 2...u think its able to do that?

Yup.. u are right. Low light condition can vary with different condition. Actually i will be using it mainly for travel. Dun wan it to be too bulky also. :bsmilie:

Are u using the 18-55mm kit lens? good? how is the ISO performance?

i use the camera mostly for travel as well
i use the 18-55 kit lens for a few month then i jump to tamron 17-50 2.8.
the 18-55 is a good kit lens, but if u want to get a good nite shot with your gf in it, you better get a good flash.
cuz even the ISO help, but you can't really get the focus or right exposure if the env is really dim.
so even i have the 2.8 lens, i still need a flash for some of the nite shot.

it is a good start to have the 550D kit I + a decent flash for travel.

Hi guys!

Will be joining the club, hopefully this saturday. Still waiting for john316 to reply their quote.

Will be getting 550D Kit 2
+50mm prime f/1.8mk2
+10-22mm
---------------------------------------
up till this point is 2800 ish, budget; Wished i can chg Kit 2 to something else.
---------------------------------------

I thought might as well get my dry cabinet and other accessories:
+DB-036~105
+tripod (haven't checked which but my friend mentioned benrou)~ 100+?

- not buying flash yet

Dilemma:
CPolarizing filter for 77mm and step-up rings for 52-77 and 67-77 or
dedicated CPolarizing filter for 77, and 67 + stepup.
OR/AND

filter holder combos

cuz maybe getting grad ND filters

and

ND filters ~ probably 3 stops if not too ex.

and of course, uv filters for all 3.

main concern is vignetting for 10-22, and cost.

Excited!! :sweatsm::sweatsm::sweatsm:

not advisable cos i tried filming with 720p (50fps), the buffer bar actually came up, indicating the buffer is running low. But class 4 is the norm since Canon gives it as free, just use it to record some clips, test out first.

i can't guarantee Class 2 because while you were filming the most important moment in life and the video stop recording. then will very sian... and regret why didn't you spend extra bucks for memory card.

any idea how much is a sandisk class 6 (4 and 8gb) card? wads the title for it? extreme?

welcome to the club soon.

i also started recently, anyway i just give my thoughts written here. Getting a flash first is more necessary than owning extra lens, for instance when you shoot indoors and you realised all your photos not sharp. like not enough mojo

hope you get a good deal!!

Haha yes i absolutely agree!! That's why indoor shoots will primarily be limited to the 50mm prime. Outdoor is limited to daytime shooting - Or night with tripods..
yea but no budget to get flash yet :)

The only thing i can think of when im shooting night is city skylines (im not into people or things at night) or starfalls...so flash is not my immediate concern

of course, until i find myself kicking myself in the foot for not getting one - which i will eventually la. haha!

pricing here
and
here

not sure where to find is the best price!
i'm also looking, retail prices in SG is extremely overpriced.
buy from Amazon.com would be cheaper.

the two sites i posted are SG prices.

Retail ones are like Harvey Norman, Courts, Best Denki, etc

anyone know whether the battery grip BGE-8 for 550D has out in the market yet?

Yes it's already out. Dd electronics sells it for $256 but Auden09 says others sell it for ~$200. (thanks Auden btw, I migt have to wait for the prices to drop.)

Here's an interesting video on improving performance by using hi speed cards on the 550d.

basically, I don't think your class 2 would suffice. Better invest on at least class 4s

yeah, call CP and MS to check. they've got stock. =) and according to CP plenty of it when i wanted to reserve. in the end, i didn't buy.

I don't think u gonna use CPL fitler for 52mm.

77mm CPL filters are expensive. ;)

is there a package price for body + grip only?

Hi all! Great to be back!

Anyways, have you guys found a 550D dedicated LCD protector? As you guys know the LCD screen is slightly wider than the 500D.

MS Color AMK Central quoted me BG-E8 $190, but no stock last week. LOL

i bought my lcd protector from the same seller as alux. not bad for its price la. size is good enough for me. but i screwed up when applying it so now got a few strands of dust underneath the protector. too lazy to get another one though. so i'm just gonna leave it.

considering whether to get a polarising filter for the 50mm f/1.8. preferably hoya. where to get it cheap?

I bought mine from here. It's not perfect but hey, it's cheap. I'll probably post pics of it later. It missed some 2 or 3mm on the wide side.

Yeah, it's good to be back, but still the site is not yet that stable. :(

Way to go 550d! Tho I was expecting a higher score

Got the 3rd party batt last week... (the original batt too expensive haha)... $35 from MS.
