I tried Auto ISO and also ISO at 100, same outcome. the moment i press the button to enlarge the picture (or zoom in or out) the pciture will look grainy. once i stopped zooming in or out, the picture is clear. if it is a problem and need to do an exchange, shall i go to Canon Service Centre or to COURTS for exchange.

It is normal lah Bro... mine also the same.

The most important is when you download the file to your PC and view it from your monitor.

3rd party batt is okay... but need to get the good one... even some of them come with 1 year warranty.

If its a well tested, well known 3rd party sure... but what good is a warranty if it damages your body?

hi guys. i decided to get a flash instead of tripod for my trip since i dread the hussle of lugging the tripod around. was looking at 270ex or di622. cos i'm kinda tight on my budget at the moment.

It depends whether the person wants to take the risk.
Some people think it is worth the money, some otherwise...

Base on my experience, 3rd batt will last only 1-2 years only.

Please read my post #65 and read the post before replying. If u are really unsatisfied with your camera, do consider other brands or model.
I starting to find u annoying and paranoid.

I am still pretty don't trust about 3rd party batteries. Not on the safety issue but on the lifespan of these batteries. And normally there warranty terms are paper specs. Do notice, some is 7.4V rather than original 7.2V and some have lesser mAh than the original batteries, which means their cell layout is different from original. Plus, their mAh rating are sometimes over-rated.

I will only buy 3rd party batteries if cells are made in Japan & specification is the same as original. (mAh can be more, voltage must be same to ensure same cell layout/config) Of course, user reviews must be positive too.

Assume 3party batt last 1 year
3 x 3rd party = 3 years, around $30 each (est)
1 x original last around 3 years, around $100 each
In the end, still save $10, assuming 3rd party batts has no issue.

I like the features of pentax camera which is using AA battery.

Canon original battery is very good. Last saturday I went for shooting the whole day... sometimes I use the live view... sometime I check the results in the camera lcd... no flash though. At the end of the day, total pics is about 730... and the battery still have 50%... amazing batt life!


Here is from manual (page 28):
- No Flash approx 550 shots
- 50% Flash approx. 440 shots

I think it is good to have extra batteries when you travel as you will not know if the power supply will be affected by the temperature.

One of my friend shared with me of her experience with bringing cameras to cold/snowy countries, her camera got freezed and cannot power-up at all.....so she have to be constantly keeping her camera "warm" to get it working....it was a harsh weather for the camera. She went to the "Ha-Er-Bin", the icy place to see all the ice structures...

Is there any upgraders from the former 400D? I am considering the 550D for an upgrade but then again I am wondering what is the difference between the 2 cameras...apart from the pixel and noise-level war, I want to know if the focusing system has been improved?

Currently with my 400D and the 50mm F1.4, the focus is still a bit slow with the USM of the lens and sometimes there are still some searching going on...especially low light.

If the focusing has not improved much....I may consider to continue saving for the MKII...

Yes you need it.

Put a spare battery in your pocket to keep it warm.
When the battery in the camera starts fail to work, you can exchange them.

CMIIW, 550D new features, the center AF is now sensitive to lens f/2.8 and faster.
So your 50mm 1.4 will benefit from this (more accurate)

50mm F1.4 has slower focusing speed due to micro USM instead of the more superior ring USM.

I am an upgrader from 350D.

I strongly believe 7D can do the job better than 550D on those extreme weather condition. 550D is not built for these.

More of lens issue then body issue. My camera focusing is still freaking swift on my 350D with Canon 17-55mm IS USM lens... 1 great lens I will get back when I finish my degree to be financally free from paying the cheesy school fees.

I used the 50mm F1.4 before, it has a longer focus path than 50mm F1.8, Micro USM speed is only better than 75-300mm III USM.
