Initially was considering that Nissin Di866 and Di622 too. However when I went Canon the other time, was told that Canon Flash will constantly "sync" with the body itself and adjust accordingly. That is not the case for 3rd. Anyway that y i m looking for a 2nd hand one to test out.

U r using Nissin Di622, how is your review?

Definitely worth the price. Although it can't be compared to the 430exII. It's TTL, in fact its quite accurate in my opinion.

im using nissin too, not bad but larger than i thot... i rmbr the 430ex wasnt as large (i could be juz having mixed perception) today i went to cosfest to shoot. anyone else went?? :) i was walking ard with sigma 17-70 and di622. wah 2 hrs can die sia the grip too small for me, weight imbalanced so quite tiring to hold :\

Thanks for the review :) Heehee, time to get the grip... That is 1 reason why i get the grip. It feel better...

Thanks. Was looking at it but prefered to get a 2nd hand one. BTW why do you need to try 3 copies?

i was looking for 1 perfect copy, but not so lucky..

Just got my 550D Kit I and a 70-200mm f4L, does anyone recomend the Benro tripods? Looking at the following 2 tripods packages which are still within my budgets...

Package 3 -- Tripod A300EX + ballhead BH-0 + padded tripod bag -- S$158
Package 4 -- Tripod A350EX + ballhead BH-0 + padded tripod bag -- S$168

Or does anyone have recommendations?

I would not suggest the Benro A- Series. Add another $30 and get the Sirui T-1005X Tripod with a G-10 Ball Head, definitely worth the buy.

5 good reasons to get the Sirui than the Benro.

[1] Sirui uses G- lock, while Benro uses Clip lock for the legs.

[2] Sirui has 6 years warranty, while Benro has 1 year warranty only.

[3] The G-10 Ball Head, can lock it's pan, 2 features, while the BH-0 Ball Head can lock once, 1 feature only.

[4] Sirui is smaller in size when folded, whereas Benro is much larger.

[5] (From [4]), Sirui can be folded inverted order, hence it's shorter when folded by a length of a ball head.

P.S, no offence intended for the Benro users, just sharing my opinion.

Hi Guys,

I have got myself a 550D kit I from Parisilk North last Friday.
First time on a DSLR, hope to learn from you guys! :)

Curently I am on kit I 18-55IS. I notices many canon user in CS prefer Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM.

Should invest this general purpose len too? or should I explore w the 18-55?

Since you are still new with the DSLR world, stick to your 18-55 lens first. The 18-55 is pretty versatile in my opinion.

Shoot more and ask yourself what do you shoot often and then that's where you proceed to your next lens.

The 17-55 IS USM f2.8 is quite popular, cos of the constant aperture of f2.8, it's pretty essential under low light conditions, compared to the 18-55 kit lens.

yea the 18-55 IS is a huge improvement over the MkII and some reviews say it outperforms even the 17-85 IS USM. i find the 17-55 focal range too short so i chose the sigma 17-70. no regrets but would have prefered the OS ver of that lens

Hi people.

I am new here.

Just got the 550D Kit 2. So far like the DSLR very much after upgrading from my Canon G10.

Anyone knows how to set the camera to record HD video at 30 fps? I am not sure of the settings, I am only getting 25fps for HD video.

Yo, 10ks!
Found it!

Some of the people here mentioned buying grips from ebay. Saw them it was half price of what Canon Singapore is selling. ($200!!!)
Are those compatible grips as good as canon?

Also, I found a local seller selling 550D battery at only $14!! Anyone using it, any comments about it??

yea i m planning to buy that too... go search youtube for comparison (theres one video that explain all the differences) basically the original and 3rd party are the same thing... ebay can get grip + 2 batt for $100. that deal is good. $14 for batt is normal price lol

The Canon 550D 1080 HD movie mode frame rate depends on whether you set the camera to NTSC or PAL.
It can do 24 fps on either setting. For countries using NTSC, it can go up to 30 fps. But for countries using PAL, it can only go up to 25 fps. You probably set the camera to PAL.

See this link:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS550D/page20.asp

NTSC standard is 30 fps whereas most PAL countries have 25 fps as standard. There are some countries that use a variation of PAL and may have different fps. You should set to your country's standard for optimal video result.

Film industry produce movies at 24 fps. So if you want to have the cinematic feel, then you can try the 24 fps. For actions, you probably want to have the faster fps.
