Hi everyone. Just got my 5Dmk2 about a week ago. Bought it at SLS Alan photo.
i previously own a 450D, and already purchased the 24-105L lens.
its a very happy purchase for me, switching from the 450D to the 5Dmk2.

Foremost would be the grip, i'm 181cm, the 5Dmk2 feels much more comfortable in my hands. I held it the whole day at the Surf and Sweat event at sentosa on sunday and it wasnt tiring at all, while the 450D, my hand doesnt grip it entirely and its just my fingers clining on (hope you get what i mean)
i love the full frame, i really get a literially bigger view of things. though range is now slightly limited, i do crop when needed
the ISO handling on this 5D is also excellent, i just shoot at 6400 when it gets dark without a worry of noise
IQ is excellent. (as compared to what i got from the 450D, which is good as well, but when compared, then yea ..)

excellent, excellent, purchase.

was holding out for the 5Dmk3 initially, but heck who knows when its coming? and the price would probably be a thousand higher than the current 5Dmk2.
my 450D has served me well, i've taken slightly over 80k shots with it since purchasing it in 2008. will use it has a back-up lens.

there's a big hole in my pocket now. and im only a year 2 student studying in NTU.!!

my next intended purchase is a 70-200 F2.8 IS. I tried out the Sigma one, which cost 1900+ (including GST) and the Canon one, which cost $3300+ ? .... besides the really solid build. and perhaps a slightly better IQ at 100% on the 5Dmk2 (i tried it out at the shop together the same day i bought the body).

Is it really worth the extra $1k?

I only have a 70-200 F4L and it serve me well enough. Althought f2.8 will be sweeter. Im actually looking at the sigma 150-500. It looks really good for a telephoto.

Thanks for the reply!

Well, i did not consider the 70-200F4L cause it would sort of overlap half my 24-105L.
and 150-500 is really very tele !!

Actually i was kinda asking more of a sigma vs canon at simliar focus length qn :X
is the $ worth the extra build and slightly better IQ, for a user on budget.

(sorry to get off topic in a 5Dmk2 thread)

Thinking of getting 5D too, sick of the noise in low light condition on my 550D. At ISO 3200 and the noise is terrible at 100% not to mention cropping the pix.

I just got my 70-200mm f2.8 IS II USM (grey) at $2850 (1 Feb). Great lens only that you have to endure the weight while on the go... normally I back sling the camera with the lens attach.

Hey fellow 5-ers, just to clarify with you that how much will CSC charge to service 5DMKII and 24-105 lens which are not SG warranty? Just normal cleaning and servicing after trip... Anyone tried before? Thanks.

THats a GREAT price for the 70-200mm !! where did you purchase it? i was quoted $3000 plus all around!!

and YES. the noise is great.
this is a shot i captured at 1/160, F4.0, ISO 6400 with a 24-105L
the lighting was REALLY poor (girl's basketball match at NTU btw)
at 6400 on my other 450D i will never achieve such results. the grainy noise can be seen even with a compressed resolution

How much did you purchased the mkll for?

$3150 with GST from Alan photo. added another $10 for the hardcover screen protector
also forked out another $130 for the 16gb 60x memory card (you really need 60x for the HDD)

What is the brand of the 60x cf card?

@zwl88: Welcome to the 5D Club.. I joined in Dec2010.. got it the day before christmas...
I am working at NTU by the way.. maybe should meet up and chat...
I am thinking of getting a flash and 50f1.4 first instead of the batt grip... my personal feeling since i find that if you are not shooting an event the batt grip is not really needed urgently since i find that a single batt can last quite well in the 5d... seriously not joking... but i will eventually get one next month...and by june i hope to get a 100-400.. but not sure since it is a 4.5 - 5.6....

Hey 5Ders...

Anyone here owns a Ef100-400? If yes, could you post a sample night shot that you have??

cheers

Bought it at artworkfoto, grey set, $2850 w/gst.

Cool, was surprise you guys used iso 6400! I at most use iso 3200 on 24-105 f4 at night. but with flash to get nice balance of light.

Anyone experienced a problem with the camera-lens contacts? i mounted a EF 50mm f/1.4 onto the 5D mk2 and there was a communication error. i mounted the 50mm on to a 400D instead and it worked fine.

I then mounted the kit lens (24-105mm) onto the 5d mk 2 and it had trouble communicating with it too. it was showing the correct aperture for a while and then it showed "00" after i took a shot.

the battery was down to 2 bars. I then charged the battery and tried the 50mm again. it's working fine now.

anyone experienced similar problems or knows something about this?

hmm. i doubt so cause i bought the camera from SLR revolution @ Funan in January. and i couldn't spot any dirt when i checked it when the error came up.

Anyone use 5d mark 2 for sports from time to time? How does it's performance(ai servo) compare to 500d and 50d(this one all cross type i know but i'm not sure how it compares when tracking using centre point only).

I'm interested to know how good is the centre point for stuff like sports? Thx

24-105 is a good lens to walk around...:)

anyone tried this setup?

5DMKII + 135mm f2 + 2x extender?

how is it compared to 70-200mm f2.8 (IS and non IS)? - compare not in terms of focal length but IQ

i read reviews that 1.4x is a better match with 135mm though
