Official 5D User Thread - Part 2

Lucky you! I am looking forward to seeing your photos!

I've been wanting to go to Malacca for quite some time. I think this summer I will have to go. Is it easy to go by bus? What is the price of a ticket? Is it safe?

Please show me photos of the "must-see" places so that I can know what to expect. Enjoy yourself!

Hi bro, it is super safe from tourism point of view. My office promoting Melaka extensively this year for Singaporean, even their Chief Minister was in town last year December to woo more tourism to visit his state. Melaka is "a must go" for shutterbugs as it offers all sort of historical building from the invasion of Portuguese, the Dutch and British. And don't forget the local delicacies and the mouth watering "Cendol" dessert!

Hmmm.... Cendol dessert! I've never heard of this kind of dessert... Any possibility someone could 'fax' me some? ;)

Not knowingly... I've had lot's of food that people gave me without knowing the name! There are many delicious foods in Singapore and the drinks are really good too. One of my favourite drinks is... (please forgive my spelling) taytarik. I'll have to pay more attention to the names when I next come.

Other than cendol, also try their chicken rice balls and other peranakan cuisines! Here are pics I've taken from the same trip and 'cendol' (pronounced chen-dol) is the ice-cold dessert with 'gula melaka' (or malacca brown sugar) in the blue bowl on the right and chicken rice balls on the next pic.

Hope that helps.

Hmmm... looks good! Thanks for the photos!

The 5D Classic still is a Classic sharing a shot again. It was on board a cruise that I went in late March 2013.

Ok raydio, I just got back from Malacca and here are a couple of shots as requested to add onto my previous pics. All these done with my 12-24.

Jonker Street

Christ Church

St. Paul's Cathedral

A. Famosa at Sunset

Last but not least......the famous Jonker88 Cendol!

Hey Snoweagle bro was in Malacca in March is this the entrance to Jonker street ?
Did'nt know the street name then :)

Thanks bro SnowEagle and Zeisser! I definitely will go to Malacca this summer! It looks like a great spot for taking photographs.

SnowEagle: I wanted to ask you about the 3rd photo you took. In the background to the extreme right there appears to be two towers joined together by a roof bridge... similar to the 3 towers that make up the Marina Bay Sands. Are my eyes seeing the photograph correctly? Is that style of architecture becoming more and more common?

BTW: the Christ Church Malaka looks very nice. The gates are closed. Is it possible to get inside? Is the church still in use today or is it just a tourist attraction?

Well there's no 'real' entrance to Jonker Street as the other end of the street is also considered one. But seems like where u're standing resides the famous Chung Wah chicken rice balls.

Oh, it's two separate buildings and not joint together.

Christ Church is still being used for services today and when no service is ongoing, gates are closed.

You can get in by the side gate.
