Official 5D User Thread - Part 2

Agree. Last time when I asked CSC to clean my focusing screen they just replaced it, costs $11.
Did you need to leave there for a few days or was it immediate?
Pointed the camera at the sky just now and was shocked at how dirty it is.

They only needed an hour to service it before collection as this is only a simple job. I guess they do not clean focusing screens as it's very easy to scratch them, so replacing it is much more convenient.

I'm thinking of replacing my 5D classic shutter module with CSC for $400. Worth it? After my 5D was broken, it really feels so different taking photos with my older 350D. sigh.

just do it.

The 5D is worth saving go for it

As good as the 5D classic is, wouldn't it be better to put the money towards a used 5D2?

When both cameras are compared, IQ is on the same level but the technology of the 5D2 is so much more advanced.

If yr 5D body n the rest of the parts are in good condition, I would say go for it. If not, like Raydio suggested, maybe a good time to upgrade to a 5D2.

Go ahead to replace...nothing beats a FF.

Yea! I decided to send it to CSC and they took a couple of days to fix it. It is back! Hope it can last much longer now. haha..

For the next body, I'm looking to get a 6D instead.

What programs are you guys using to handle the RAW files?
I am having a hard time getting it into windows. Are you guys using Canon's DPP too?

I use Lightroom.

I use DPP and Lightroom. I'll be taking a course in Lightroom on Thursday to sharpen my skills in it... so from then on I will probably be using only Lightroom.

Thinking of going for 1 too. I just borrowed an LR4 book from NLB and frankly having left school for donkey years, it's difficult for me to finish that 600+ pages......

Yes, I can relate. Books tend to take so much longer and require a huge investment in time. A course seems to take far less time and highlights just the things that are necessary. The rest can be discovered afterwards with usage.

I learned the basics of PhotoShop Elements from an Adobe book called "Classroom in a Book". It was a great book but it took about a week to get through. I'm sure that I could have learned most of its content in a full day course.

To get started on LR, no need to read the whole book from front to back at once lah. LR has several modules, just read the chapters on getting started, organizing and developing, and you are good to go! The rest can just read along the way as you get more proficient and if the you need to use those functions.
