When AS on, it should make a slight ZZZZ sound when activated. Nothing unusual about it...

I had mine for more than 18 months now... have the some noise (only when it is dead silent condition) never bother with it, ask KMSC in Sydney, they say normal. Should only hear the sound when the AS is compensating for the movement.

If you can shoot with 200mm end at 1/20sec-1/40sec handheld with AS on and sharp picture, then AS is working.. Simple test..

Hart

so does it randomly have sounds on only some shots? btw, when the AS is silent, it doesn't make a noise when i jerk it or shake it. when the zzzzz sound starts, it doesn't stops even if i place it on a stable base. right now, the main thing is whether the sound is constantly happening in all shots or only some shots, taking all conditions the shot was taken at to be EXCATLY the same. cos right now, i know that all of you have sounds when the AS is activated, but right now, is the sound constantly there or only for some shots?

haha... so how?
i looking for the bag i wan... :( cant find:cry:

ok. after my first big shoot out at national day with all my equipment full force, i say,.....not bad. the bag was pretty spacious and accesible, the lenses seemed to fit in nicely in whatever i am shooting(in terms of focal length and focusing speed). my diy remote control worked pretty well too. guess my inital setup is complete.
after one month of shooting with my 7D, i am pretty fixed on it. so in the end, my one-month long photog buying spree expediture ended up at 3562 SGD.

what i spent on:
7D, 28mm, 5600HS 1400
sigma 17-50 720
sigma 70-200 900
Digi cabiAD-80 208
Hoya SHMC 77mm 69
SR D400AW 120
Benro monopod 45
Manfrotto ballhead 100

now, only left with just one more question to ask: lately, when ever i am shooting wide, i keep getting back focusing problems though i specifically selected the center sqaure for focusing. here's an example:
PICT1667_Large_.JPG
.
i focused at the women's head but after three four tries, but it still locks on the background. is this a common problem with all 17mm focal range, or am i an isolated one?

btw, here's my DIY remote: dun laugh ok? i had only a few hours before the national day to take the fireworks.
PICT2146_Large_.JPG

so basically, the big piece of foil closes the circuit of all three wires, opening the shutter.if i need some very very very long exposure, i just close it, and lock the cover. i figured that the focusing function is not really needed on the remote, so i ignored it.

hmmmm...........thanks for the interesting site. but i think i misused "backfocus". it focuses correctly on easy to focus objects. but whenever at wide(17mm), it starts focusing backgrounds rather than the foreground.

and a want to buy advert here: want to buy ORIGINAL konica minolta NP400 batteries. must be working well(meaning having battery life about the same as a new one). not buying eastgears as they die relatively fast. had 1 KM and 1 eastgear for my A1 2 years ago. now, the KM still working like new, the eastgear, dies after 30-40 shots despite fully charged. price perhaps $20?

maybe the third party battery last only one year..
:dunno:

Don't know also my newer blue colour label battery die yesterday  while the old green one still running strong, strange

Using two third party batteries, one from Eastgear and the other from Edworks (with PCT logo on battery). Both performs very well, very similar to original.

I hope not, both my 3rd party batteries coming to a year soon. Which "old green" battery is it ?

Come to think of it, I think it's time to stock up on the NP400 battery if there is an intention to keep using both the KM7D or 5D for a while longer or even sell if off later. KM gone now, which means no more new camera will use this battery and the battery will not be produced anymore.

oh ya... i think i should stock up another 2 of it maybe. going for long holidays would be convinient.
Anyone knows if 6 Ni-MH batteries can last as long as 2 NP-400 using a VC-7D?

well...lets assume 6 1.2V 2100mAh and a 2 NP400 7.4V 1500mAh. so using E=IVt,

for the NiMH, E=6x1.2x(2.1x3600)=54432J

for the NP400, E=2x7.4x(1.5x3600)=79920J

results: NP400 is the winner!

so who can do MO for those original NP400? dun like to risk with eastgear.

wow! haha... :bsmilie: it had been a many years i last used science fomula
so guess better stock up NP400.

Hi yokechye....nice meeting you and your friends yesterday and thanks for the nice spot.

The 2xNP-400 will still power your 7D long after the NiMh run out of juice. Another "big" problem IMHO with NiMh is self discharged compare to Lithium.

At least for 7D users with the grip, you still have the option to use normal AA batteries if there is no more NP-400. For 5D users like me, probably have to hook up an external power source liao. Looks like have to keep the DPS-9000 battery pack a while longer. ;p

Do let me know should any of u want to MO the NP400. BTW, is this batt still selling in shops?

i only know eastgear still have stocks for their NP400. KM versions so far no news from CP or MS.

The EastGear batteries are ok... I have 3 of them... they last longer than the original one...

anyway I have never heard any noise on the AS system on my 7D... never noticed it... to busy shooting... kekeke...

1) for wide angle shots, i got same problem with my KM 17-35 mm also...but i realised the lens is damn good for taking scenery shots..... haha....maybe wide angle need to use MF....cannot be too dependent on the AF

2) I belive batteries are all the same..as long you do some basic maintenance, the batteries will last longer...if never use in long time, once a week take out and charge.. ;)
