Nintendo DS: Should I or Shouldnt I?

The Nintendo distributor is doing a bad job here in marketing their product. Just go to any gaming website, and there are tonnes of guys talking about how their level 99 Onion Knight pwn the final boss in Final Fantasy III.
The argument against Nintendo DS in the past was due to the limited games that appealed to hard-core fans. However, this year there are already some big titles for die-hard fans, like Final Fantasy III, Children of Mana and Castlevania. With the recent announcement of Dragon Quest IX on DS, as well as the Final Fantasy Chronicles, DS is definitely not for the casual gamers only.
If you decide to get a DS, please please get Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! Ouendan attracts gamers, guys or gals, young or old. It is easily the best title on the DS so far. The english version of that game was released about two months back, called Elite Beat Agent, which featured some familiar songs like "Material Girl" (Madonna), Y.M.C.A. (Village people) and September (Earth, Wing and Fire).
Other than that, do try the New Super Mario Bros, which was released in May this year. The system is based on the Super Mario Bros. that many of us grow up with. It's a fun-filled platformer that is simple, and should keep both gal and guy gamers happy.
Also, try Mario Kart, a game released late last year. The mechanics is simple... joypad for direction, A for accelerate, B for brake. But the big plus point to this is the fun-factor of connecting to the millions of players online, searching for random players on Wifi, to have a quick game.
There are also games like Rub Rabbit and Wario Ware, which are party games that would kill some time while on the road. You should also not miss out on Pheonix Wright, which has a simplistic adventure game interface, where you act as a defense attorney fighting the case for your clients. The cliches in the game is so comedic and popular that you can find tonnes of spoofs of pheonix wright on Youtube. The anime Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (aired in Japan between April and June this year) spoof the scenes effectively in one of the episodes.
If you are Japanese literate, you should also look at the hundreds of DS titles that are available, like Romance of Three Kingdom, Nobunaga Ambition, Uncharted Waters, Pokemon Pearl and Diamond, Ys Strategy, and the scores of games based on manga and anime, like Keroro Gunsou, Naruto and Bleach.
Oh! And Times Magazine simply love Brain Age!

Go down to the physical shop for the site, and see for yourself the selection of games they have for DS, as compared to the PSP. Note, half a year ago, the collection of PSP games was larger... how times changes everything.
Walk around SLS, and similarly you will see shelves full of PSP games half a year ago are replaced with more and more DS titles.
I will pimp the DS a little bit later for more reasons to buy a DS.
It all depends on the kind of games you like. DS games are really cute, interactive and funny.. whereas the PSP games are full of "action". Would think that overall DS is cheaper since the games are more affordable.
Not true. The price of PSP is getting ridiculously cheap.
The failing overall popularity of PSP, and the gaining popularity of DS has seen the pricing of games going opposite direction as well. Most of the good DS games easily cost more than $59. JPN version usually cost at least $15 more...

July 31, 2006 - Sega of Japan has a big surprise for arcade fanatics who happen to have a DS (we presume this isn't too rare, seeing as how the DS is quickly approaching a 10% penetration rate in Japan). According to reports out of Japan, the company is developing Sangokushi Taisen DS, based on its arcade smash Sagokushi Taisen series.
Sangokushi Taisen was originally released to the arcades in March of 2005. As one would expect from the title, the game features large scale battles based on Asian history. Players use real trading cards to control all movements, similar to Sega's successful arcade soccer and horse racing attractions.
The DS version is based on Version 2 of the arcade game, which hit game centers this May. You hold the DS sideways, and instead of using cards, you direct your troops using the stylus. Sega is preparing a story mode for the home version and is also planning nation-wide battles using Wi-Fi.
There's no word yet on a stateside release for this arcade to DS port, but given the success of games like Dynasty Warriors, and the strength of the DS market as a whole, it could happen. The Japanese version is set for Fall release.

Another quick piece of gaming news... PSP will be getting a port of Final Fantasy Tactics (based on the PS1 game), while DS will be getting a brand new Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: Sealed Grimoire in 2007.
The overwhelming success of DS in Japan will only mean more games going to the DS than the PSP.

If you think DS is for kids, think again. Times magazine is known to have few advertisements, and they are very selective of the products that are advertised. Having Brain Age being advertised earlier in the year was slated to be the rare occassion where a game make it in such a serious magazine.
The game was used to made into a political statement earlier this year as well. Nintendo American send President Bush a NDS Lite with Brain Age when NDS Lite appeared in the market early this year, with the intention of boosting his intelligent.
Anyway, Brain Age isn't a game per se. It does have a number of brain exercises that challenges the player, such as memorizing stuff and doing arithmetric sums. It is anyone's guess whether IQ actually increases with more gamplay. But the best part of Brain Age is actually the Sudoku that comes with it. The writing on the touch-screen is so intuitive that it's like playing Sudoku on real paper. If you like Sudoku, you really shouldn't miss out Brain Age.

Mario Kart,Animal Crossing,Phoenix Wright series,Elite Beat Agents are a must get if you get a DS! Great Games! Lol..I just bought one just now at Gamescore,great shop. $279 bundle,way much cheaper then PSP.:angel:
