some say this, some others say that
some argue this, some argue that

test in shop for at most half hour... how can...

only true way is buy them, own them, and them determine the results then tell us

can always sell the not needed in the classisfied at a loss

hehe...wise words. i sense a gathering of brothers waiting to pick up an unwanted lens :bsmilie:

with this price i rather buy a sigma 30mm f1.4 instead.

;) just came back from CP

tested AF-S 1.4 and AF-D 1.4...

AF-S(lower) than AF-D(ynamic) when trying to focus on a similar subject... AF-D response was definately better.

Colour-saturation and vibrance, AF-D showed a better picture compared to AF-S.

AF-S is of a better grip than AF-D as S is bigger than D.

Conclusion... the price does not justify the fact that the older D lens works better than S lens.

these were my humble comments after i tested it out with D300 system

Old wide to normal prime lenses are all focusing very fast on D300/700/3/3x. Thanks to the AF module.

But AF-S 50/1.4G is faster than AF 50/1.4D on D40/40x.

The CA & corner sharpness of the newer AF-S 50mm is better than the older AF-D. And that's the plus point here. Hope the price will go down in a couple of months time.

am i reading this right?the AFS lens hunts for subject SLOWER than the older AFD!??!?!?!??!?!?

sadly this was the case when i tested with D300, however, below was another comments from other CSer who viewed differently ;)

Wonder how you arrive at that conclusion... if I'm not wrong, the D40, D40x and D60 do not have a focus drive pin -- you must use AFS lenses in order to have autofocus capability. 50mm AF-D cannot autofocus on the D40x.

Haha... :bsmilie:
how come i missed that

I meant, this AF-S 50/1.4G lens is more for people who want a normal Nikkor that can autofocus on D40/40x.

Canon has 3 50mm lenses lined up. I just think that there is another faster 50mm coming from Nikon.

Wah....the price is killing me...guess have to just put this on hold liao. Still hope to eventually get it...when it is not so ex.

For those who can afford, the new AFS 50mm f/1.4G should be had:

(a) for those who DSLRs cannot drive non-AFS lenses but on manual focus
(b) for those on FX who needs better a overall better IQ lens; even if it's slight
(c) last but not least, for those DSLRs who can AF with this new baby, the speed should be very welcomed if you fo AFC + CL/CH

was quoted $820 by john 3:16 today.
went to CP, was quoted $798 and bought it. no extra surcharge for using card / NETS.

Congratulations! We await for your feedback. :D

Agree the price is too high...Me poor man with family can only own a D70. I might change my mind and get a Nokton 58mm/f1.4 SL-II @ 580SGD. I like AIS prime more.

You will not be disappointed!!!

so far everything looks ok. i'm don't know enough to review the lens though.

no need to review lens lah... unless u r a lens reviewer

buy lens to take enjoy taking pictures... not to compare with all the diff 50mm... look for bokeh, softness, blah n blah and blah ...

never know nowadays buy lens so stress:sweat:

u happy can oready
