$100 is much :) did u get it locally?

I am kind of curious if the current high price for the 50mm is due to nikon singapore setting the price high or retailers marking up to earn higher profit. If u can get it much cheaper locally, it means that nikon singapore did not price the 50mm too high and the price will drop after a while. If the high pricing is due to nikon singapore..... then maybe price will not drop....

Erm, Nikon Singapore set the RRP as $949 :(

ok...finally have time to 'test' the lens.

my advise is....
DONT buy it...
the focusing is SLOW....really...
i use to think AFS=fast and silent.....
but this IS the SLOWEST AFS lens i have...

i'll most prob keep this lens in dricabi....

i hope when they launch the 85 f1.4 AFS in future, it wont be so dissappointing....
:embrass::(

So jeanie, meaning you would rather get the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D or f/1.8D instead? I thinking which to go for....hmmmm

all along i already have the 50mm afd 1.4.

seriously, the AFS aint any much faster IMHO.
$800(the price you guys get on average) is really NOT worth the price.

Jeanie, slower, but focus accuracy consistency is it up to par with 50mm f/1.4 or better?

Aka while focusing slower it always hit 100% accurate focus?

Could you have gotten a 'lemon'? I have read reviews and all seems very positive...... sad to hear that. Maybe you should go down to the shop and do another testing on another lens?

the focusing is really slow but...
i felt tt the AF-S is more accurate than the AF-D

I'll see how it performs this Sat in low light condition

The Focusing issue as mentioned doesn't bother me much, but I'm more bothered with the purple fringing occurring prominently at f/1.4 when taking photos of subjects or items in white or bright light colours.

For those using AF-S version now, can you help to verify that AF-S version renders better image for these scenarios, or still the same ?

Posting some images for comparision between AF-S and AFD is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

IIRC, i dont have probs with my 50 afd in focusing.
but so far, the afs focusing is rather spot on.unless if you are shooting really NEAR to it's minimal focusing distance, then it tends to 'hunts' a little.

seriously guys...dont waste the $.

u know when i buy a lens, i'm given the priviledge to try a few.
and i usualy manualy open up the aperture to check the dusts in them.

i tried about 3....on the spot...with a d90.
first impression...

WTH!?!?!?focusing so slow?
i thought it could be the d90...
so i bought it and came home and try on my d3....
SAME focusing speed...

lemon?

believe me...i have enough nikon lenses to tell which is a lemon and which isnt.
dont say i showoff ya....but i seriously think ALL the afs 50mm are the same.

some folks already posted in dpreview that the af-s focusing speed was slower than the af-d version. but that might not concern everyone. i tried the lens for myself and i find it acceptable for my uses.

i still think its a good piece of glass. as long as the image quality it produces are more pleasing than the af-d version i would probably still go for it....once the price drops to a more acceptable level.

oh yeah...the lens comes with lens hood and pouch, stuff that the af-d version does not come with. that probably added $50 to the cost. so giving a 50% premium to af-s and 9-blade, the max i would pay is $700.

so why you bought the af-s one?
