Nikon D700, time to switch camp

from reading this thread, there are so many here don;t fully understand 4/3 system and give very negative comment.

- noise issue
if a camera can't shot indoor at usesable ISO1600 considered NO good or a camera that one should dump/switch away, then my question is, what about those hasselblad, that cost most than SGD10,000, only comes with ISO100, 200, 400 ?

Is hasselblad an IDIOT camera ? can;t shot at high ISO ? do you mean the hasselblad owner are hanging on a dumb camera and should all of them switch to D700 ?
...

I was thinking about this post as I saw this news item about a new 50 MP sensor from Kodak for the new Hassleblad camera.

ISO 50-400 only. Now, what can you do with that? :bsmilie:

Bro, how u know they have no plans? :P

For all u know, they will coming guns blazing at oly next.

So much noise here ... more than any sensors at any ISO ....

Lets see who are the doers rather than the sayers .... list of switrchers:

1. ? cimman
2.

List of 4/3 users:

1. olymac

I have had seriously considered 4/3 system for the last 3 weeks already

but now sony dropping the A700 price by $400....

very tempting.... and very confuse which direction to take now???

I considered several brands before buying my E-1 and then recently, I considered the Nikon D300, but the truth is that those other brands don't have the right lenses. They have a lot of lenses and some are old and some are cheap but anything more than acceptable and they're expensive.

I'm still not sure about the E-3 but I am sure that if I want a much better package, I'd better be ready to step up to medium format, Mamiya probably, because I discounted most of the brands with 35mm-like SLRs pretty easily.

This is not what I'd consider constructive.

Thanks.

I have a friend who bought D300 and moaned when he read the specs of D700 and his lense collection is not fully compatible.
So now if he want to upgrade to D700, he has to sell off his lenses and buy new ones.
I told him it is not too late to swicth to Olympus, since you have to sell of everything anyway but he stubbornly held on to the blind believe and succumb to peer pressure that only Nikon is worthy of purchase.

Good for Nikon, bad for his pocket.

Well if he has money to burn, then well I guess it is his money.
May be when we sit leisurely together again 30 years later I will prod him on his decision now, and how much money does that translate that time.

Is up to individuals as each has their own preferences. We consider ourselve lucky that we doesnt need to change lens when we change our cam bodies. U will feel the same when other brand user try to convince you to switch camp too.

To switch or not to switch is really a very personal thing.
If money is not a problem just switch.
Sometimes, I know it is frustrating to miss some shots due to your equipment limitation.
But think again, can we captured everything ? The answer is no.
I am so far still happy with my Nikon system.
Occasionally, I will have the urge to own a Canon, Pentax, Sony or Olympus.
However, after much self consideration, I still decide to shoot with what I already have.
End of the day is the photograph that matter most.
Of course, one day if I can no longer control the urge to switch, I will just buy if I can afford, and enjoy the new toy. :)

I would think that money is why some people switch - because they can not afford to maintain two systems. Of course not everyone falls into this category .... :sweatsm:

Some find that there is not enough space in their dry cabinet to keep too many equipment and rather than get a bigger cabinet, they switch.

Some people switch because their friends switch, and to be part of the same crowd, they follow suit.

Some may even switch because they switch company; e.g. from being an Olympus employee to another company because they lose their lobang for discounts .... :bsmilie:

Some people switch because .... who knows ..

I just stumble upon the rumour in DPreview of the possibility of a square format for the 4/3rd sensor to be annouce for the photokina. I really like the olympus way of lateral thinking instead of sticking to the film format if its true. They call it the "Whole frame" format but dunno whether will it improve any noise performance with it. :)

whenever I'm indoors either in the daytime or especially in the night, I'm reminded of the four thirds constraint ie. high noise levels.....

If Olympus doesn't come out with a full frame sensor soon, it's going to lose more ground to the market leaders.......

..........Currently the Olympus at ISO 3200 is unusable at 4R size pics.

Whenever I look at my pics, I always wonder how to improve on the composition, subject matter and the lighting .... before I wonder whether I should change equipment.

If Olympus doesn't come out with a whatever-is-defined-as-full-frame sensor, I don't think it matters. Same argument for EVERYONE. Everyone is right now losing ground to Hasselblad coz they have the BIGGEST sensor (FULL FRAME OF COURSE!). And eventhough Hasselblad is the market leader, I have zero wish to own any Hasselblad equipment right now.

ISO 3200 ..... wowwwwww ..... Heard the Fuji F31 was pretty decent at this ......

As mentioned in every other post in cs, i think u are the one who should decide and not let a drop in prices make the final decision and regret in future...:)

Go take a look at the A700 and take some shots, then try out oly, compare the images and decide..

Hmmm ... btw I still have a Nikon body and some lens, 2 Minolta Bodies and more lenses and also the E-510 ..... which camp do I belong in :bsmilie:

I find these discussions about SWITCHING and CAMPS pretty meaningless. It makes it sound like photographers are BRANDED either one or the other and of course this is absurd. I have used Nikon mounts, Canon FD mounts, OM mounts, K mounts, Minolta MC/MD mounts, M42 mounts equipment through the years. And I don't consider myself as belonging to any particular "camp". If anything these discussions of camps makes it sound somewhat "cultish" when all I ever wanted to do was take better pictures .... :what:

And to insinuate that the mere appearance of the D700 is a good reason to "switch camp" ..... sounds a little infantile.

Or learn to enjoy your food at the restaurant .....:bsmilie::bsmilie:

I have friends in every camp but seriously, we still have fun talking about different formats ;) and yes, the A700 dropped by $400 which makes it equal <ahem> to HK prices. I think maybe they're thinking of A900 <ahem>

Time to switch camp to ..... Sony A700 :mad2:

This I have done... borrowed my friend's A700 cam and played with it... that's why with the price drop, Sony is dangling a sweet carrot in front of me:bsmilie:

This is very interesting. But it appears to be entirely do-able within the 4/3 format. Indeed this is revolutionary and thinking out of the box. It also will remove the stigma and ignorance associated with the fact that 4/3 are not full frame ..... :nono:. Now they can claim they have "Whole Frame" which no-one else will have. But I suspect iso-performance will be similar since it is simply enlarging one side of the 4/3 to make it square. It is like fitting a square inside a circle versus currently, an oblong inside a circle.
