Yup, read somewhere else about payment for such reapir at around the same figure.....is Nikon backing off because its costing them too much to repair? If so, they are shirking their responsibility in dealing with an inherent defect.... my own D70 is showing mild symptoms of this problem, ie strange readings in normal daylight situation, like 1/20 F2.8 intermittenly. I think it is going to conk out soon, fortunately I have extended warranty on my Cam.

after reading this thread, I feel that my D70 is on a death wait....dat really sucks.

I bought my in November 2004. What can I do to pre-empt the problem? So Nikon has no official word on this as yet?

Expose it to high levels of static electricity and/or high levels of electromagnetic radiation. That way you can short-out the D70s electronics and claim warranty repair way before your warranty ends in Nov 2005. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Maybe all D70 owners can go on mass circuit suiside as descibed by deadpixel.....

I had got my camera back from Nikon Malaysia. It is F.O.C. as it is still under warranty. Apparently without warranty it will cost me RM420 or around $180 Singapore Dollar. Finally... after two weeks without camera... :D

finally, mine is down with this sympton. sianz.

whats the sop for getting this fixed?

Send it in.

Urgh, blinking light just happened to me too. CF light suddenly went blinking as i was reviewing pics. Guess its time to send it in for repair and upgrade the firmware.

bought mine march 2004, haven`t use for one-two mth, means broken just after warranty
yucks

Mine just got fixed FOC from Nikon Singapore. Bought in March 2004. The warranty expired 3 months. The symptom is worse, totally black out, could not switch on and the viewfinder is dark just like no battery.

I wonder what is the percentage of D70 models that experienced this? Mine had the "Err" message briefly just weeks ago. So far so good. Hope its not going toward this direction getting the "Green Lantern"!

Sent in mine for repair on the Blinking green light issue on 20/6. Warranty just one and half month out. The counter girl said the repair cost will be S$273. I blur blur agreed. After finding out that many folks here are getting their repairs done FOC even after warranty, I highlighted this issue to the NCS girl who called me yesterday that mine is ready for colllection. She said she will waived off the charges if I produced my purhased receipt from CP. I will be collecting my D70 this afternoon. Keeping mine fingers cross..... :

My friend paid the $300 bucks for the repair, NIKON IS NOT BEING FAIR AS THEY CHARGE IF YOU DO NOT ASK FOR WAIVER. I wonder how may who are oblivious to this have been forking out big money for an inherent defect of the camera. ARE YOU LISTENING NIKON?????

wow... is that so? *hmmm* some big problem then.... lets wait to hear the others out. im eager to see how others were treated....

No, you should get the D70s.

Is it true that D70 is no longer being sold as D70s superseded it?

Looks like there is no consistency :dunno: Did your friend send in personally or ask some agent to do it? Heard that if you send in personally then Nikon will not charge you, otherwise, they will charge. Dont know how true...

Anyway, I think if the problem is the same, all should be treated fairly.

My friend did ask for waiver, but was told that the manager was not around and they have to charge...I have told him to go back and demand a refund, we'll see what happen...
