simple. Stick with your kits lens, since u obviously have no clue ..yet ;p
Zoom into your "niche", then shortlist your lens later.

**ignore my comments, if your wallet is fat ;)
am thinking of the 55-200mm as its rather cheap now. but i know i definately need a lens that can work in low light.

Hi

I am a newbie D5000 users with 18-55 kit lens. Any suggestions on whether to add a 55-200 or replacing with a single 18-200 lens?

Cheers

Replace with a single 18-200mm lens will be better.

depends on u whether u wanna go thru the hassle of changing lenses or juz havin 1 lens to stick with ur body... altho i wuld say 18-200 wuld be better as it's more convenient.

followup question: Any lens recommendation - Tamron or Sigma (with model nos if possible). Thanks in advance :)

Thanks. Tamron looks impressive. The reviewer is obviously a pro :-). Any feedback from noobies who have used this lens with D5000 especially of Auto Focus Hunting, Shooting moving targets and shooting indoors? Cheers

Hi, I am also a proud new user of D5000, haven't really shoot much with it yet due to busy schedule. Can anyone post some pictures to see its capabilities.
Thanks

Probably can look through the posters' flickrs. Check their sigs. Alternatively can search flickr for pictures taken by the D5000... It's a very good camera, enjoy!

I concur. It's a very good basic DSLR. I am glad that I picked it up as my first DSLR :)

Hi n welcome :)

Well.. servicing costs money.. n it's a few hundred bucks for each servicing i believe. It depends on how often u want to service it haha.. but from my point of view, dslrs dun really need tat frequent servicing unless something inside is about to spoil (for eg, ur shutter unit) or ur sensor's dirty.

Oh i see, i thought freq serving will maintain its condition ma..;)

if still under warrantly, servicing iszit free at service centre??

with reference to Nikon warranty conditions: http://www.nikon.com.sg/warranty.php

i dun tink it's free as it stated:
The warranty does not cover cleaning and maintainence of the equipment.
