Hello all

Got mine from CP last month & now hooked with it.......kept thinking where to go to take some shots, the picture quality really makes me happy just by looking at them.

Now equipped with a sigma 18-250mm OS HSM lens, so far only minor compain is the added weight......not a big issues for us ...guys

Took some nice photos with this baby in Universal Studio last weekend....:thumbsup:

Hoho! I wanna be part of this group too! Should I get the D5000 now at trusted stores in Funan/SLS or should I wait for the COMEX this Sep?

yup, i do agree with takuyazz....you dont really save when you buy at comex, pc show, it show's at suntec. they just bundle the price with freebies you dont really need.

for me, funan is the best place to look for. you can even bargain the price if you just know how to tickle them. their prices are way cheaper than comex and pc shows. plus their freebies are very practical too

you can try anywhere else....the good thing about photography is it has NO RULES...!!! yes..., its not like basketball or football that you have to abide in order to be IN....

good for you, you have that lens gear from sigma. how i wish i could get one someday. im just currently having the kit lens 18-55mm VR. though i love it, its sharp and the the way it projects the color is very good especially when you print it already....

I tried wireless remote on my D5000 but the detecting isnt that good.

i bought a wireless remote for my D5000 at S$ 14 in funan. the wired one was at S$ 33. no issues so far.

here's a quick tip. make sure you aim the front end of the remote to the front of the camera where the AF assist illuminator or to the D5000 logo is located. it is where the wireless transmitter receiver is built in the camera. then make a one step backward and press the remote to see its range capability. do this stepping backward many times until the camera cannot receive anymore the wireless transmission. this will serve as your limit when you go out for a shoot or photographing a family picture.

So you keep moving backward to try the limit. I think the distance isnt far than other Cam.
Have you try other nikon DSLR to D5000? I have tried with my friend D90. it works better than mine

hello.. reposting a question here.

I will be shooting indoor with my young kids +bokeh very frequently.

Have tried my hands on "AF-S 35mm/F1.8" and "AF 50mm/1.8 manual focus".
For Static subjects under low light, I believe both should perform well.

Q1. What about indoor candid shots of ACTIVE kids?
Will I constantly need to manual-focus, thus losing the moment? or worse, bluring the subject.

Q2. I assume outdoor daylight should not challenge both F1.8 lens?

Q3. For static subjects, I can play with manual-focus (aka the 50mm), but for active kids, not sure how my manual-skills will keep up. I am assuming AS-s (the 35mm) will be a safer bet. Comments?

Q4. Sadly, I do agree with bros that the bokeh from a 50mm looks nicer..but 35mm maybe have to set to F2 and above to get nicer bokeh?

Kids are fast moving. They move almost every seconds. MF is not totally impossible but you will have a harder time to focus. Even with AF, its already not easy.

My bet will be the AF-S 35mm F1.8. It will make your job much easy and you will feel more happy.

manual focus using 50mm will take up more times. 35mm will be more suitable for D5000 user. Taking kids photo is more hard so you have to set faster shutter speed. For outdoor dont set so high for apreture useless u doing a close up and want the bokeh.

How does it perform outdoors?(do we need to constantly adjust the manual-focusing too?)

My concern is I will end up fiddling to much with the focusing, that the "moment" is gone.

I using the remote mode only.

You are using "remote" mode and you have tested your hardware can activate your friend's D90 - meaning you know which way to point the remote and the remote's battery is not dead. Try pointing your remote straight at the front of your camera only one meter away. If it does not fire, the possibility of camera h/w failure arises.

Shooting active children in low light is a major challenge to get good image quality pictures whether AFS or AF. Using a non auto focus lens under such conditions will not cut it. AFS? maybe. But it depends on how "low" is your low light. If you want to shoot them in a room, place them close to a light source, e.g. a lamp and try to get them to move less.
