saw alot of posting on d5000, is it good?

those too high end one its too complicated

actually basic handling of any level of DSLR is the same, u just need to play with the ISO, white balance, aperture or shutter speed setting. the other function is just additional.

if you dun intend to play with the setting, or not thinking of changing lens, I would suggest you get a point and shoot or prosumer.
a good PnS or prosumer cam will have much better zoom function than a entry level DSLR. but for DSLR, you can "upgrade" the zoom or wide angle as long as u got the $$$

however given the price of the entry level DSLR is so cheap now, just go for D3000 or D5000. either one will not be wrong. the " auto" function is as good as owning a higher level PnS. but you will loose out on the zoom distance. cos the kit lens is just 18-55mm. unless u spend another 700-1300(depending on the brand) to get a 18-200mm super zoom lens.

1 thing to look out for in entry level DSLR, the lens available is really limited, can only get those lens with internal focusing motor. do a google on this before u commit,

maybe not complicated but more options for those further into photography

if to ocomplicated might was well stay with PnS? haha :bsmilie:

anyway D5000 is a pretty good entry level DSLR to jump into from PnS to learn more...

then later as you learn more you will want the "complicated" DSLR... ;)

yeah it keeps on goin....:)

Hi All, newbie here...I just gotten my new D5000...converting from PnS camera to my first DSLR...

I just want to ask, on your preference for a second lens to buy (I bouhgt the Kit 1)...budget is a little bit constraint ...I was thinking of the 18-200 mm but very ex...and I narrowed my selection to this two which I could afford

AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR or AF-S DX VR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED

Any advice on the pros / cons between the two lens is appreciated. thx

personally i have 55-200 and 18-105...this two lens are not bad...but of course..compare to 18-200 the hassle changing the lens...both len's IQ are different....if u are the type who dun mind the hassle...u can get two lens with some change left for other stuffs...or...18-200 for one straight shoots...:)

welcome to the D5k family, i would suggest the 55-200 if u have no intention of selling yr kit lens. if selling the kit lens, than go on with the 18-105,
if still wanting the reach of the 200 but a hassle to change lens, than look to the Sigma 18-200......:)

totally agree, sigma 18-200 OS is much cheaper compare to nikon VR. 700+ compare to 1300+..

Thanks for all the advice...I'm now considering the Sigma 18-200 OS HSM...atleast less hassle in changing lens...

I also brought this lens together with the cam...its a good lens...
just take note that at the far end...135mm onwards...the image IQ is not that sharp....
but 18-135...the IQ is good...

I suggest trying the kit lens first (18-55mm) and find out if you are really missing out the tele side.

18-200 is quite expensive. 18-105 is a good substitute if you don't need 105-200 very often.
Again, find out your shooting style and then buy.

Hello all,

I just bought a D5K recently and started shooting with it over the CNY period.

Problem is: I can't seem to open up the RAW (.NEF) files on my Photoshop CS2.

I have a D40 and shooting and opening up the files in PS CS2 was not a problem previously.

Does anyone have the same encounter?

Photoshop problem - CS2 and CS3 do not have anymore RAW update for the latest cams of whatever brand. They are in a way forcing ppl to buy their CS4 which they have updates for all the camera raws.

Consider getting the original CaptureNX 2 for RAW processing. Better and designed for Nikon. :)

Hmm.. that kinda sucks

I mean, CS3 wasn't too long ago. But anyway I'm using LR before CS so not so applicable to me. But still, it sucks.
