If it says Nikon F mount, it can be mounted and you can take photographs, if that is what you are asking.

However, there will be no Auto focus, and no metering. You will have to take pictures using MF and using M mode only.

Oh yes, and make sure it is converted to Ai if it is pre Ai. If it is AiS it is ok.

It may be wise to read up compatibility here.

hello all!

hehe just got my d5000 today! =D
excited to start shooting with it.. still trying to familiarise myself with the cam. totally unused to it.. have used a film slr, pns, friends' dslrs.. but this is the first that i can call mine. hehe.

quick silly question.. how do i 'force' the cam to take a shot even when it is not exposed correctly? eg, if i intentionally want to make the photo dark. i tried in Manual mode but the shutter sometimes still doesn't release =/

The shutter release wouldn't fire not because metering is off. It did not fire due to the AF system's inability to lock on due to insufficient light. Switch over to MF and you will see it fire without fail.

hey can i know...erm i know dat the nikon d5000 can only fit lens dat has auto focusing motors.....
how bout third party lens like tokina and etc?
how do i know if they can use?
and roghly arnd how much?

Would there be a difference between mounting a SB400 or a Nissin Di466? Or are both flashes around the same quality?

When you see the third party lens which built in auto focus on depend on model.

Yes, SB400 has LCD and Di466 did not have LCD.

portraiture would require somewhere between 35 and 70 mm. i dont see why your 18-55 isnt wide enough :dunno:

i meant the IQ of the photos. as i've got a friend using d300. he's using prime lens only for the shots. its able to capture higher IQ as comapred ot mine. in terms of sharpness and details.

u will love 35mm!!!!

If they say it is Nikon mount, you will be able to fit the lens on the camera without question.

The only thing is if the Autofocus will work or not. The 3rd party lenses with built in AF motor will autofocus on your camera. If the lens do not have AF motor, you will have to use manual focus.

Lens cost will depend on the specific lens you are talking about. Most of the lenses are cheaper than their equivalent Nikon branded ones. But not all.

35/1.8 will work on the D5000, if that is what you are asking. Whether it is good or not depends on the individual.

What do you mean by not wide enough for portrait? 18mm not enough ar? So wide for wat ar?:dunno:
