So far I find -2 for D40, D40X, D60, D80, D90, D200, D300, D2X and D3 looks right, so I guess -2 on D5000 sounds right as well. Just look at the grey bars and -2 seems to give the most uniform.

i set a -2 on screen, and a -0.7 ev on my cam sia. dono why that gives me a nice image exposure.

I set it at -2 and the pictures i took seems kinda overexposure abit. So was wondering if is it because of the -2 thats making me misjudge my shots, or i meter my shots wrongly. Guess i must have metered wrongly.

I set mine to 0. The pic on the LCD screen looked underexposed when compared to D90, but the jpgs look fine.

The shots looks ok on the LCD, but when loaded into the pc it seems kinda bright and overexposure, so was thinking that i might have set my LCD brightness abit too low. Think i have to get my monitor calibrated and then from there find the right brightness for my D5000. Maybe you guys can take a look at this picture that i took of my friends to see if its ok on your monitor or not?

Lens use is AF-S DX 35mm. Iso 200, shutter 1/200s, F2.8, 0EV, WB Cloudy. Fill in flash set as TTL BL.

Subject looks ok. Background is definitely too bright. Check that at the shutter speed/aperture/ISO combination the background is not overexposed. This usually happens when you use fill in flash when the subject is too dark. Bear in mind that the shutter speed will drop to sync speed (1/200 in your case) and this may cause your background to blow out.

Right LCD brightness for D5000 should be -2.

Have you been updated for lightroom?
No need to cry. it was baby haha

Haha
Anyway after almost a week of using the D5000, I believe I am a convert; I still think jpeg processing is superb. Something I could never get on the G1 I used previously and why I had to learn LR in the first place.

Some sample pix I took over the week, all from jpeg and almost nothing processed. Now wondering whether I should just dump the RAW files coz take up too much space

Hi Isisaxon. Tks for the comments :). Erm...can i check with you, in order not to blow out my background, will decreasing my camera EV and then increase my flash EV helps? Also will metering the background and locking the exposure and then use my flash to compensate for the dark foreground helps as well?

You have to meter without flash first then see what is the shutter speed/ISO combination. If the shutter speed is too high (above sync speed) then you'll need to either stop down the aperture, lower the ISO sensitivity or use an ND filter so that at 1/200 (sync speed) the ambient exposure is not over.

Ic. Tks Isisaxon. Will it out the next time i shoot ^_^

you can find it at nikon singapore website under service advisory.. yeah you should send it for service asap because you dont want it suddenly cannot switch on ur camera right? although your camera is still working.. they only replace the shutter chips not the camera lah..haha..
it take 3 days for them to service my camera..check ur camera serial number at nikon website wether it falls under that category..

Yeah I've just sent it in and suppose to collect on Fri. Anyway, I just saw your sig and realised we have almost the same lens setup. Anyway, do you feel that the 35mm tends to err on over exposure? I use it usually have to underexpose a bit so that the picture doesn't get washed out. Especially so when there are spotlights on subject. :dunno:

I used a dry box....cost me $29, and a bottle of silca gel @ $4...the downside is u must change the gel after u open the box the 3rd time. ...
no need to put the whole bottle...I used a cloth pouch with abt 2spoon full of gel....can normally keep the humidity at abt 45-50%

when the gel turn pink...just bake in a oven or heat up in a cheapo wok (I buy it from daiso..$2 only) to turn it back to blue.
