NIKON D500 - Quick and dirty High ISO noise test

Currently most like to show off the machine gun like shooting speed..

Ya cos most of them are deprived of the FPS that nikon has offered other than the D4/D5 series. Lol

From what i can understand from google translate from the below article ,
the d500 has the best dynamic range but lose out to perceived resolution compared to a6300 and xpro 2 ?
anyone read japanese can clarify ?

Just their opinion using the DPreview tool. Why not visit DPreview and see for yourself.

Just got the D500 on Friday afternoon and testing it that night. High ISO seems to be slightly better than D4s. AF-C is fast on 25pt and 3D.

Just got mine too from MS Color , but I think D4s still much better IMO , now only work with Android snap bridge app , IOS not available yet , so to say I can't use my iphone to connect because it no longer support Nikon current WMU app , snap bridge need lot of improvement, I can't change speed n Aperture on phone and also on camera because once it connected .

Great thing bout the D500 is the wider AF points, i can now select a focusing point on the edge of the frame..

Example shown here, where the head was the focus point. (No cropped image, I was pretty close)

The latest version of ACR for PS CS6 is 9.1.1, later versions are not compatible with PS CS6 as far as I know

The only way is to download the DNG converter and convert the D500 RAW files to DNG

I am a little confused with the shutter specs regarding the electronic curtain in mirror up mode.

The specification was stated on the D500 but I don't know what it means (ie. Only available in MUp mode or is it available in Live View without having to dial to MUp) and I also hear that the electronic front curtain is not available on the D500 but is available on the D5 although both were similarly stated in the product specification in the Nikon USA website

Normally, the electronic front curtain wont matter in most applications except for low light photography of birds at low shutter speeds as low as 1/15sec where the mirror slap causes minute but significant difference to capturing feather details

Can anyone clarify?

I don't have the D500 but I was interested in the issue so was reading up about it. From the specifications D500 seems to have electronic front curtain, and from what I read Nikon's implementation is that it is only available in MUp mode. (Canon's implementation is that electronic first curtain is only available in Live View)

Means that to get electronic front curtain, you have to depress the shutter button twice, once to lock the mirror, another time to activate the shutter then a delay before the exposure starts.

This is how I understand it from DPReview's D810 review and write up about it:

Now waiting for people with first hand experience to share :)

Sharing some photo taken by D500 and S156.

Just to share, for the D810, the EFCS work in live-view and does not require MUp

I used it several times shooting 800mm f/5.6 at 1/60sec and the image is vibration free

It is the same for the D5 but need to confirm that for the D500 as the description on the specs is the same. Hence likewise, waiting for the D500 users to share as I yet have time to head down to a camera shop to try (provide they have it for testing which will be highly unusual for Pro bodies)

Hi, like to check if that's any known problem with this model so far?

Sharing my short and limited review of D500.

I never thought I would be interested in DX sensor (cropped sensor terminology used by Nikon) again after all these years. I was using Nikon D3 and has owned Nikon D300s for a short period of time. I eventually sold the D300s as there is something I like about the feel in images taken with the D3. I did not upgrade my camera after that as I was less active in photography. When Nikon launched D800E with its killer medium format resolution, it rekindled my interest. Without the effect of optical filter, the images were simply detailed and marvelous (I prefer the images quality over D3)! It also save me some time on post processing because I do not really need to sharpen my images when I reduced the image size. I used the D800E and subsequently D810 more often than the D3 as a result. Plus they were light weight in comparison to the weight of D3. When D500 was launched, the specs are more impressive than the Nikon D2xs I used to own and cheaper. It does 30mins of 4K video recording, 10fps, 155 focus points, excellent high iso performance and to me more importantly like D810, no optical filter and sound of shutter than D800E. Without reading the manual, I took the D500 for some test drive last weekend. Live user support provided by Sree, whose initial sharing was one of the reasons I picked up the D500. Thanks my friend!

I did not try all the functions and settings (that will take a long time). What I wanted to try was the sharpness, high iso and focusing speed. The Nikon D500 did not disappoint. I was having the same kind of fun with actions that I used to enjoy from top camera models from Nikon. These make me feel that D500 (body only) is value for money at less than S$2.9K especially if one is into nature photography. Current price of Nikon top model (Nikon D5 is > S$8K).
