i've used it for 2.5years. converted to D90 just for last trip. keeping D50 as backup camera. it is probably difficult to sell anyway, looking at the number of my trips put online, but the finish is as good as new - that's the good thing about nikon bodies.

well, it was my first DSLR as well. i suppose it is of sentimental reason for many, the similar may be seen for other brands and models, but D50 have been well built, light and fairly capable.

my switch to D90 basically sees little changes. i dun seem to benefit at all from more AF markers or higher MP, and once again i have to adapt to the new metering and exposure compensation (moreover have to find solution for D90 NEF), but certain things are significant improvement.
- better ISO at 800-1600 makes indoor shooting more at ease
- larger viewfinder definitely makes a difference.
- dust removal may be helpful but not a major concern.
i probably need another year to know D90 better and to realise its virtue. but i still can use D50 with comfort, though the smaller viewfinder is something hard to look back on...

2nd hand D50/70s and 50mm f/1.8 AF-D are something i will definitely recommend to those with a very very tight budget, and add on a wide angle and that will cover my basics.

Used it for about a year and still going strong with good noise control. Prefers this over another camera for RAW shooting due to its 6MP smaller file size.

The D50 holds its own against the S5 Pro. The D50 is capable of reproducing the baby skin colour of the S5 Pro.

Still using mine ... :)

.. shutter now close to 55k.. just waiting for the shutter to die before going to NSC and have it replaced to give it a brand new life! definitely keeping this gem as its a highly underrated camera . no pics to post yet as all pics taken are in my external hdd.. erm.. somewhere in my room haha

My D50's about 40k shutter now and still going. The shutter seemed to have failed once--It showed "EE" on the display and it snaps very 3 times and stops, but it came back to life again. After awhile i could use it again. No idea why. :dunno:

I use a D50 too ! btw how do i know when the shutter needs replacing?

when the shutter dies, ie the camera not working. u dun have to change it, unless it stop working...

did consider selling the d50. but hmm..then again...maybe not. no doubt the D3 is more superior.

below. Nikon D50 , 18-200VR , VIVID mode in cloudy WB . no pp :)
must say my d50 has travelled with me ard the world quite a bit

Strange. what's with the sudden BUZZ about the D50 recently? i must say it's prob one of the few consumer NIkon DSLRS thathas held it's value very very well against other nikons

It is an excellent camera for anyone to have, especially if one wants to travel light. It performs well under low light too. Cheap and good.

I just upgraded to D90, still have my D50 though.

Will say D90 has almost all the improvement I yield for when using D50.

Better LCD & viewfinder, more control & faster access to common functions, better high ISO performance, remote wireless flash, flash FP mode etc...

Get the D90. Make your upgrade worthwhile. For me, D50 is more than enough.

reliable...better ng D40 and D60...very nice with IR..

My first cam is the D50 too!Absolutely love it...
just that it feels heavy with my tamron 17-50
hahaha

but now i am thinking of switching to the d5000...
what you guys think?
worthwhile?

what other lenses do you own ? the D5000 doesnt have AF motor built in but the D50 has .

I see that most bros have a d90 and still keep the d50. I too have the same setup :)

btw, if you feel tha the d50 feels heavy with the tamron, the d5000 isnt much different..

if you want a great bigger jump .. the d90 would be great :) but ultimately.. it boils down to your budget

You have one ready buyer here... :bsmilie: (let me know if you really wanna let it go yah!)

Haha, if you think D50 with 17-50 is heavy, try D50 with 17-55!

But back to topic, for lightweight setup, you're better off with the kit lens. I'd normally take my D50 with 24mm F/2.8 for a lightweight setup.

The D5k have different features, like swivel LCD, and lack of AF-drive screw. You'll need to top-up in terms of pricing too.
