if that's ur main reason for the change, i think its worth it. 2nd hand D40 and 2nd hand D50 prices are quite close. if all the lenses u have or plan to have is AF-S, then i think its not worth the effort.

My opinion will be to save up. Since u can upgrade to a new D90. Though a D50 is a grt camera.

ooh;p

The D50 was the first DSLR i ever owned! Learnt all my basics with this humble yet capable body

To current D50 users, what SD cards do you use? I was using 2GB cards previously, but bought a few 4GB SD cards. The D50 can read/write to the card, but can't seem to format it.

Wouldn't it be nice if Nikon come up with a firmware upgrade for the D50 to use SDHC cards?

Just buy two pieces of 2GB SD cards and bring a 1GB SD card previously recycled from old handphone. Should be enough for a 2 weeks holiday. ;)

I've already got 2 pieces of 2GB and a couple of 1GB SD cards. As I'd be shooting in Raw, need some extra storage space.

Anyway, the Transcend 4BG SD (non-HC) cards I've recently bought are normal speed. There's a 2-sec delay whenever I power up my D50, perhaps the camera wasn't tested up to 4GB?

D50 ftw!! ;)

Been using it for a few years already and fortunately its still going strong. :)

I think unless you really require video recording capabilities...the d50 is cheap, compact and produces great pics. My only quibble is lack of white balance fine tuning and wireless flash trigger.

Its also gone with me to a few overseas trips. Here's one taken from my recent trip to NZ.

My D50 with EN-EL3 took 983 pictures before the low battery warning comes on. Probably enough juice for another 50 shots.

That makes it at least capable of taking 1k shots with a single charge!

Anyone has sample shots from a D50 fitted with Nikkor 85 f1.4 and Nikkor 70-200m f2.8?

erm, anyone selling their D50 body? Buying one... :)

yeayyy!!

i've just bought this little monster, 2nd hand..

while trying out off flash cam a.k.a strobing, i'm pleasantly surprised to know that this cam can do a H.S.S (High Speed Sync) of up to 1/1000!! my S5 max sync is 1/250...

amazing...

hi peeps,

may i know what are your fav settings for this monster? Normal? Portraits? Sharp?

advice greatly appreciated...

Flash sync with on-board flash, or Nikon speedlights are up to 1/500sec on the D50. How do you set up for HSS?

For the color/picture settings, D50 produces excellent pictures even at default, ie no sharpening, no Vivid settings.

sir...i'm using PT04 flash triggers. initially i tawt my pic would come out half exposed. but i was surprised when i compared it with my S5 Pro, same setting.... max off shoe flash would be 1/1000.

ok sir..i'll try at default setting.. just not used to looking into th small lcd screen:bsmilie: lah..

It can sync all the way up to the max shutter speed because it's using electronic shutter beyond 1/250 IIRC.

I just bought a D50 yesterday....happy to be back:thumbsup:

One of the things that I like about the D50. :)

Sometimes I use portrait or normal mode when shooting in jpeg. But most of the time, it's RAW.

count me in. d50 + kit lens + 50mm/1.8 pancake... outstanding

i dun think 50mm f/1.8 is pancake. it got to be half to 1/3 the length to be pancake.
